Ebay: high prices for stuff that doesn't sell anyway...

I was looking at Product Enterprise diecast vehicles, looking to find a couple to complete my set.
It struck me that all prices are high for this line (often $300 and more and ending in $2,500), but there are always plenty on offer, supermint in package. You don't have to look hard to find them, and they keep offering them month after month.
What's the point? Waiting for that one desperate customer?
Are sellers convincing each other ( and us) that these pieces are indeed super rare?
"Rare" must be the most overused word on Ebay.

How about actually selling one at a reasonable price and making some money?

I was wondering about this too.

A few years ago I was forced to sell my Eagle 1 because I needed cash badly.

I wound up selling it just shy of $50.00

Being in the United States seemed to help get in the bids back then... My guess in fellow US bidders didn't want to mess with international shipping.

Ever since then every once in a while I scan the PE Eagles --- most kicking myself for selling mine

Still, like you say, the prices are high - but nobody's buying

    Kinda reminds me of Hummers

PE stuff seemed to sit on shelves and while many dealers dusted, they subsequently raised the price.

I've been walking past the same SHADO 2 mobile for over five years at a local flea market, it's now $300. They never reissued anything and i don't think they're around anymore, so it really became a seller's market, although I'm not sure how many buyers are out there....

I'd gladly pick up the UFO Interceptor set, and it's being offered regularly here, but always in that $250-300 range.
        I'm not that desperate.

I got mine for 150 locally but it was somebody who bought it, displayed it and decided to part with it. So I grabbed it with both hands, I never see them for less than 250 normally and it's the same ones over and over again.....

I notice someone here in the u.k. was selling mego wgsh for something like £180 for a falcon they have been on there months I got mine for £13 and mine's in better condition ,I think sometimes sellers see mint carded or boxed things and think I've got one of those i'll put it on there at the same price but they don't realize the item has been on there for months with no interest same with markets ,one I go to has the same pieces of whitefriars glass on the stall at the same prices for the last 5 years and not 1 has sold

I know it sound really childish, but sometimes it annoys me that a cool toy is in the hands of someone who doesn't care about it (except for the money), and I would absolutely love that toy.
Maybe the seller really needs to money, I keep telling myself. But then again, if they're overpriced and not selling anyway...

Yeah, I never understood the logic. If you want to sell it, try to get your highest price. If that doesn't work, drop it down until it does.

Although, I must admit I do have a bottom line where I'll say, i I can't get this much, I'll just keep it in the collection; but I don't keep re-listing it hoping for a fool.

Oddly enough, Product Enterprise never made an Enterprise. They do mostly UK licences.
I passed on their 24" Space 1999 Eagle years ago ($350). Now it's like $2,500 here...
