Another one that hasn't been mentioned is Fleetwood Mac - however, it is well known that they started out as a UK group...but since the most famous lineup includes Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham of the US, I'm not sure where they stand officially. I guess we'll have to share that one with the UK.
I think the closest the US ever got in comparing a band to the "Beatles" would be the Beach Boys. I don't see the Eagles sharing much similarity.
Then there's also the Doobie Brothers.

The original AC band were one of my biggest musical influences. I grew up wanting to be Glen Buxton, basically, hehe.
