Family ethnic foods you like but nobody else does ?

I'm guessing this thread is more for our New World members than our European friends (but everyone feel free to post)

Rather than say The Americas and Australia i'm using the term New World

So the question is name an ethnic food that was popular in your family going way back but today you and a few are the only ones who still enjoy that food.

For me it would have to be Kishka -popular in Eastern Europe- (pig blood sausage containing mostly pig livers, blood and throw away meat)

I can't get enough of the stuff but the rest of my younger family think it's one of the most disgusting foods ever.

How about you and your ethnic foods tastes ?

    heh.
Not ethnic so much as regional, but I love me some peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I'm an NC boy.
Not fried, though. I'm not that crazy!

Yeah, I totally got that going on too although my daughter is on board as well. It shouldn't be something I like but dammit....

Do you guys have Gulden's spicy brown mustard up there? If so you gotta try it. I swear it was made to go with Brauschweiger.

I usually get either Sugardale, Oscar Mayer or Kahns. The Kroger's around here closed years ago.

I'm on board with this one, as well. I'm not even sure how I began eating it, but I really do like it. For me, I seem to eat it on Ritz or Townhouse crackers, but Saltines will do. Fortunately or unfortunately, I rarely eat it.

Amen to this. I buy a tube every summer when we're on vacation and look forward to eating a bit every day.

Oh, Braunschweiger...mmm. There used to be a specialty deli/restaurant on Medina, OH whose house sandwich was a grilled slab of braunschweiger, corned beef, swiss, tomato, and a spicy-sweet mustard/mayo house dressing on grilled rye. Side of German potato salad & kosher dill.

I can still recall the taste of it, so delicious.

My Mom's side of the family is German--one thing she and I love is souse, a pickled variation of head cheese. Looks terrible, tastes great. I like braised beef tongue, too but no-one else does.

Schmaltz herring is one that I think fits. I love it!

On the flip side of that, everyone in my family can't get enough gefilte fish - which I can't even stand the smell of.

I can't think of any "ethnic" foods that I grew up with. Most of what we ate was average North American fare. I eat a way more wide variety of food now than I ever did growing up.
