    Windows 10 - should I or shouldn't I

Well, first thing is to to say that I'm typing this on a computer that is still running XP and I still like it. Over the years I've been able to pick up a few computers at my local transfer station ( not allowed to rummage and salvage anymore ) and also have a laptop with Vista and another desktop that I loaded Windows 7 64bit on to. I like Win 7 - sat in front of a Win 8 and hated it - and now I've got an offer to upgrade the Win 7 to Win 10 for free but I'm not sure if I want to. I like Win 7, still wish XP was supported am afraid that Win 10 will be too much of a change and I won't like it and won't be able to go back to 7.

Any opinions on my dilemma? I have until next summer to decide.

Installed Windows 10 on four newer laptops. Each time the upgrade was flawless and no data was lost or weirdness. It is important to make sure all your apps are updated especially antivirus protection.

If your computer runs Windows 7 well Windows 10 will be smooth. It brings a lot of familiar Windows 7 aspects to Windows 8. Definitely a mix of both.

This nonsense about waiting till the bugs are out is just that ... nonsense. These days Microsoft rolls out bug fixes every Tuesday. Even Windows 7 doesn't have all the "bugs worked out".

From what I have seen Windows 10 is ready. The real question is are your programs you need ready for 10? Is your accounting software ready? Are your productivity apps ready? I use Office 2010, Adobe Pro XI, etc. Pretty current. If you are still hacking away on Office 2000 beware of glitches.

Only app that won't start for me is my backup app, Cobian Gravity. So I am expecting an update to that soon.

Driver model hasn't changed much so all my printers and scanners that worked in Windows 7 and 8 worked flawlessly. Scanning, faxing, duplexing, all good.

Most of my corporate clients use custom 3rd party apps so for them I am recommending caution and patience. Stick with Windows 7 Pro for a bit longer. But friends and family are getting the upgrade as we speak.

I held on to Windows XP for as long as I could, and just kept upgrading my old computer with new hard drives and graphics cards and stuff. But eventually so many things were breaking down on that computer that I finally replaced it earlier this year with one running Windows 7. I didn't want Windows 8, because I heard so many bad things about it. Now I just updated to Windows 10 a few days ago, and so far I really like it. It was really easy to upgrade, and everything went very smoothly. My computer seems to be running a little faster now, which is nice, and none of the software I use has had any compatibility issues. The new start menu took a little bit of adjustment, but now that I have it set up just the way I like it I wouldn't want to go back to Windows 7 or Windows XP

I went from XP to Windows 8 and found it not too difficult but had to self learn a few things, Windows 8.1 was much better. Never had any major issues that Malwarebytes could not care of. Upgraded to Windows 10 right after the release and have no issues what so ever.. None! And for those that do upgrade try the new Microsoft Edge browser. Very impressed and lighting fast, much faster than Chrome..

              I'm going to wait.

There looks to be a lot of privacy concerns and you now have to sit through unskippable video ads to just play Solitaire.

From personalised ads in Solitaire to an address book-reading personal assistant, some users are unhappy with Windows 10’s approach to privacy

              It sounds pretty invasive.

"Elsewhere, Windows 10 also harvests user information in order to teach the built-in personal digital assistant Cortana, Microsoft’s answer to Siri. To enable Cortana, the company says, it “collects and uses various types of data, such as your device location, data from your calendar, the apps you use, data from your emails and text messages, who you call, your contacts and how often you interact with them on your device”
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I been wondering the same thing myself, just got a new computer last week after no internet in the house for 3 years, got the internet thru an AT&T little hot spot gadget, the laptop has the latest version of windows 8 and once I got it going I got the offer to upgrade to windows 10 but figure I'll wait and see what everyone says.
Right now it's all new to me, my last computer had XP and was on dial up, I did like XP a lot.
