I just watched "They Live" the other day to. Roddy was just an awesome guy!

very sad and too young to pass on!

One of the best movie lines:

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick *ss... and I'm all out of bubblegum"

Roddy hitting Snuka with the coconut was one of the classic moments of 80's TV

One of my Dad's favorite wrestlers from that era. Way too young to go.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Wasn't a huge wrestling fan, but I liked Roddy Piper.
          Was shocked to hear this.

So sad! One of my favorites growing up. Coincidentally I went to visit my parents today. I found some pics I took of wrestling matches when I was a kid from 1985. I found some of Hulk Hogan that I was gonna post on my facebook because he seems to be in the news alot latley. I found some pics of me watching wrestling that my grandmother (thankfully) took on those glorious afternoons. Pipers Pit was always the highlight of my saturday mornings.
Then I come home to see this news...

I liked watching him in the 70's, on Portland Wrestling late Saturday nights. His kids and mine went to the same preschool (at the same time) and we saw each other at church. That was a long time ago. I didn't know he moved out of Oregon. He was a super nice guy in person, and I'm very sad he's gone.

One of the very best, his mic skills were unmatched.
He is the reason hogan was so big in the 80's.
With out a doubt the best heel ever.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

Piper was the greatest heel of all because he went over-the-top at every turn.

Even kids who should have been afraid of him loved him - because he was very cartoonish

Bob Orton Jr was the perfect partner - basically wink-winking to everyone to be in on the know (see TNT)

Not a huge wrestling fan, but he (along with Randy Macho Man Savage) was my favorite. What a rough life these guys lead. Way too young.

They said he went into stand-up comedy. Shame we'll never know if that would have went anywhere for him.

I was stunned hearing this...loved him as a kid I first saw him wrestle with the NWA and he became an instant fav of mine. When he came to the WWF he became legendary and his mic skills was second to none. You loved to hate him or you just loved rooting for the bad guy. Piper's Pit was a highlight. My Fav movie of his was the John Carpenter movie"They live" with the great catchphrase - "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ***. And I’m all out of bubble gum."

                                RIP, Roddy.

I share many the same memories of him with the rest of you. I agree that the WWF wouldn't have been what it became, in the 1980s, without him. He was certainly one of a kind.
