    My Art Work

So...I am/was an Artist. Things in my life happened years ago, that for some reason made me lose the will to draw. I haven't picked up a pencil in 23 years. Recently I got curious and started to wonder...have I lost my talent? Can I draw still? I was unemployed for 4 months so this gave me plenty of time to find out.

I found this great little Art site call "Our Art Corner." So I started posting there. I tried to post them in the order I drew them so people could see my progression. It's the newest on the top and older ones on the bottom of my page. Check them out if you're interested.

Artworks created by CptShaw. Pencil Artist, sometimes pen & ink, amateur photographer, Musician. I've just started drawing again after a 23 year hiatus. Why...

NICE WORK!!! I would say your talents remain solid and intact! Your drawings show you have a real knack for nailing the chin and jaw lines accurately and I love the way you render the noses. Each portrait has a different approach too. You know how to add detail without going overboard. Just enough to define shape and space but no overkill. Eye spacing is excellent as well. You do good work!!

Those are wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I especially like the Captain Kirk one. You really captured a young Shatner.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

You're quite right, I didn't go for the same style every time. Sometimes I tried for the "realistic" approach...other's I went back to my Comic Book roots, especially on the hair(Scarlet Johansson, Buffy, etc...).

Thanks again guys. Ironically, I get criticized quite a bit on that Site for not adding tons of shading. But as MIB41 said..."You know how to add detail without going overboard. Just enough to define shape and space but no overkill." This clean style of mine I contribute to my comic book roots. I tend to think of my pencils as drawings that are waiting to be "inked." I even explain that sometimes in my description...but nobody reads it...LOL!

P.S. I am an Inker as well.

Those are great! I can really appreciate how hard it is to get a likeness right. Well done and keep it up!

Thanks man. Those are my two favorites as well...they're two of my all time favorite Heroes, so I really put heart into those trying to get the likeness's right.
