It is quite a personal thing, isn't it? I deeply love the Kenner Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back lines, but I think I have only one Return of the Jedi figure.

I still liked Return of the Jedi, but by '83 I deemed I was beyond toys. Of course, now, I wish I had more Kenner stuff. Oh well.

Oh, and Masters of the Universe are ghastly to look at, but I know they are dearly loved by 80s kids.

Yeah, when I see a MOTU figure I envision crushing it in a vise to steal its torso for muscular customs. Sorry 80s toy kids.

I hate the MOTU body type, but love the characters and cartoons. That's why I'm looking forward to the Super7 figures

Whenever I see MOTU I always think of the old Warlords figures (not sure which came first)

I was a big transformers fan in the mid to later part of the '80s. I probably had almost every robot, I concentrated on them so much. But after the movie the series changed to much for me and I started to lose interest. 30 years later with all the different versions that have came out, including the movies, I still only like the original G1 transformers that I collected during that time. Sometimes I'll see a new one that looks nice but I have no desire to own it.

I don't think you're saying anything except affirming Mike's original assumption.

I think it DOES indeed have a lot to do with "age" as in "what year we were born" affecting what we liked in popular toys in our culture back in the day that we've now brought into our futures.

However, there's also the significance of "what year we started growing up/having less of a childish interest in the hot new toys" ---so, what I'm saying is, I think age does have to do with Mike's question---but, you just grew out of toys a bit later than Mike did, is all.

I see a lot of the other posts in this thread unnecessarily delving into deeper "likes" and "dislikes" with no real relation to what Hedji brought up regarding that us older folk have a lot "IN" common when it comes too our toy nostalgia.

Born in 65... I was out of toys and into cars, girls and a a job for gas money by the time the 80's got here. i can remember my younger brother being into He-Man.

For me, in my formative 1970's era childhood, It was comic books (DC runs mostly), Megos, monster model kits, glow in the dark kryptonite rocks, Freakies cereal, Schoolhouse Rock between Saturday morning cartoons, Batman and Dr Who re-runs weekday afternoons after school, and when Star Wars came out, I was twelve years old. I have never since had the feeling that I had in that theatre that day.

I was born in '66--I understand what you're saying here completely and was the same way about SW figures. ESB was pretty much the end of it for me. Bespin Luke was a favorite figure back then. By the time RotJ came out, I was buying Ace's Conan paperbacks, Ballantine's Tarzan books, and getting into Judas Priest and the Scorpions. I would still buy the Marvel Super Special adaptions of RotJ, Blade Runner, and stuff like that, though.

I was born in '74, so I'm somewhere in-between the 70s and early to mid 80s toys. I go as late into toys as GI Joe RAH and Kenner Super Powers.

When it comes to "Fight Club", "Pulp Fiction" and things along those lines, I don't get the fascination. It's not that I'm too old for them, I'm just weird or something.

None of this bothered me but I did feel that I should hike my pants up to my armpits and catch dinner around 3:30.

                      Total spent by me $0.00
Even scarier, the 80's Toy Show crowd is getting long in the tooth compared to the demographic I spent my weekend with over at Atomic Lollipop (a Rave style "Geek Fest" with an anime/gaming crowd). At least I really like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future... but have absolutely no affinity for the 90's kids and their Pokemon, Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon.

I think having two younger brothers gives me a window into Thundercats, He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe RAH, Real Ghostbusters etc. Particularly since the ten year span between me and the youngest puts him squarely in the 80's camp (the reason why he usually tables with me at those shows).

Oh man, I've seen your photos from that event, and can see that I would SO not fit in with that crowd, it would make me feel so old!

Born on the last day of 1977, I'm smack dab in the window for all 80s nostalgia. I think my nostalgia ends at ninja turtles and they barely make the cut.
