Each morning I had to put both of my arms into molten lava and rub thumbtacks on my stomach or I wasn't allowed to go school, which was 72 miles away and buried in shards of glass I had to dig though with my bare hands.
And the most annoying part was that the older generation labeled us "slackers" because they said we were unmotivated, self-absorbed, rude, and entitled.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Speaking of nostalgia and Funk & Wagnalls back in the 70's my mom got me an entire set of their current encyclopedias at my local Shop-Rite (grocery store)
If you bought a certain amount of groceries per week you'd get a free volume.
Had the entire set within a year.
You don't see great promo give-aways like that nowadaysComment

My list of chores went something like this...
Haul five-gallon buckets of water to the barn so the cows could drink.
Feed the cows.
Feed and water the dogs.
Feed and water the chickens.
Check for eggs.
Clean out the barn stalls.
Bale and stack hay in the summer
Carry and stack firewood in the fall.
Push mow the lawn and do the trim.
Kids today got it so easy...Comment

That's pretty neat.
We only had like 10 chickens.
Weird story ... 9 chickens used to constantly beat up the 10th one all the time.
No.10 had the least feathers and was always extra timid.
I decided to leave her out of the coop and run free 24/7.
She used to bed down under a hemlock tree on my lawn.
Within a month she was the most beautiful chicken you'd ever seen (after not getting constantly pecked)Comment

Learn values.
Earn what I wanted.
Respect my elders.
Know when to shut up.
Plenty that kids are sadly lacking today. Then again, I know a few adults that need a lesson or two. Growing up in the first place would be a start for a few of them.Last edited by Boy_Wonder_1978; Jul 25, '15, 3:40 PM.Comment
