Where were you 30 years ago today?

I can't believe it's been 30 years ago today that Live Aid happened. A concept that spun out of the 'Do They Know It's Christmas' single to provide hunger relief to Africa. Both the single and concert put together by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. Basically a updated version of George Harrison's Concert For Bangladesh on a much larger scale. Two countries on the same day having 2 concerts that lasted all day long. A lot of memorable performances. Here are some of them:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

    - "Isn't It A Pity"
    By George Harrison

Unfortunately I can only post one video per post. With that I give you Queen at Live Aid:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

Is this the one where Phil Collins played a show at 2 venues flying across the ocean to get to the other one the same day?

Led Zeppelin reunion. Unfortunately the quality isn't up to snuff. Led Zeppelin basically told the company that released the DVD set that they didn't want to be in the DVD release...so what you see is a vhs transfer:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
        The beauty that surrounds them

One of my favorite performances of the day Ultravox's 'Vienna' :

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see

I remember watching Live Aid. Even at the tender age of 10, I realized Queen owned everyone in both stadiums.

I remember it being a scorching day, having a BBQ in the garden. I taped the whole concert as well.

Queen's finest day...Mercury simple owned Live Aid...he had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

On the other hand, Led Zeppelin (in the American version) were sleepwalking through their performance...what a shame for one of the greatest rock bands of all times.

Wow 30 years! I remember watching bits and pieces of it throughout the day simply because it was such a huge deal back then.

egads, I was glued to the tv waiting for U2 to play. The performance that put them over top.
