R.I.P. Dusty Rhodes "The American Dream"

Already bummed out about hearing of Christopher Lee's passing then I got a message saying Dusty Rhodes passed. I loved watching him as a kid.

Dusty was one of the best bookers WCW ever had. I watched the guy every week in the mid '80s on TBS. Today now offically sucks.

Met him and the Andre the Giant back in the very early 80's. Watched him go from bad guy to the American Dream in the 70's. :(

This one really bummed me out not only because I was grew watching him, he wasn't even 70 yet. Taken too soon. Hopefully he's hanging with his old partner Dick Murdoch now and they are having a cold one upstairs.

I still haven't processed it fully. I think it will hit me tomorrow. My all-time favorite. My friends and I were preparing for the debut NXT show here in Pittsburgh when the news hit. A ten bell salute was held at the show and nearly every match had a Dusty tribute fit in, as he taught each of the NXT wrestlers in promo (interview) skills at the WWE Performance Center. I feel very fortunate that I met him many times and saw him wrestle live twice and am trying to think of his family and friends, but it's hard to not be selfish when thinking of The Dream.

                      The Greatest. Period.

I'll admit he was never really one of my favourites growing up, but, as I've gotten older and learned more about the real inner working of the business it's impossible not to have a ton of respect for him.

In a business where everybody talks crap about everybody, you never hear anybody say anything bad about Dusty Rhodes. And that's saying a lot.

The Wrestling universe, and indeed this one as well, is poorer for his loss.

I spent many a saturday in the 80's hoping Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. would finally take down the Four Horseman. Dusty was my dad's favorite and he hated Ric Flair. I remember trying to get the lawn mowed as fast as possible so I didn't miss a minute of World Class in the days before VCR's. At that point in time, Dusty's best in-ring days were behind him, but he always had his wrestling mind and was still training new wrestlers to cut good promos, because he was absolutely one of the best.
Expectation is the death of discovery.
