Anybody else have a door-to-door magazine sales for points salesperson show up ?

Young guy knocked on my door. (like 20-ish)

He said he was selling magazine subscriptions so he could gain points for a free trip to Italy.

Magazines were all crazy priced - $60+++

He kept going on and on like he got annoying door-to-door pointers from J Witnesses.

Anyway I told him not interested but I did give him a soda (looked like he was going to faint from the heat)

I looked this practice up on the net and it looks pretty common -- I never heard of it before.

Looks like it might be a scam.

Anybody get visited by one of these ?

This is the first time I experienced one of these door to door salesmen---- not counting local kids stuff--- Girl Scouts cookies and School sports teams etc.

In Cambodia there was a scam going on, where young girls carrying babys would come up and ask for money for powdered milk. Some people would go along without giving money, and actually buy the product, which would later be returned and cash refunded to the girl

Mike, these people came to our door and my wife bought a magazine for our son. It never came and the number to call headquarters is a machine. No call back. I contacted the magazine and told them what happened and they agreed to look into it and gave us a subscription. I also reported the scam, but it is apparently well known.
