Moldy Packaging Smell

Hi Guys, I didn't know where the best place for this post would be so I stuck it in here. I won a couple of nice Corgi Rocket sets on Ebay a week back which arrived today. They were fine apart from the really strong moldy smell on the packaging. I was wondering if there was a good way of getting rid of this without damaging the cardboard?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know the febreeze will get rid of the smell but I dont know what it would do to the cardboard. I wonder if you stored it in a box with some silica packs to absorb out the moisture if that wold help.

Just had this discussion with a friend recently. He was complaining about some really great comics he picked up that reeked of mildew. He tried the bounce sheets in a zip lock bag, but said that didn't help. I guess these one's were really bad because he gave the whole lot away just to get rid of the smell. hope yours aren't as bad, but might be something you have to put up with.

I've used the fabric sheet methods that Buk mentioned and it worked fine. I wiped the box inside and out with the sheet then left it in the box for a few days.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll try giving the fabric sheets a go. In the meantime I've used a deodorizing spray which has taken a lot of the smell away.

I have also had a lot of luck with dryer sheets. I haven't had the mold problem but have experienced receiving items from someone who was an obvious smoker and just want to remove the smell of smoke.

Try sealing it in a box with an open packet of baking soda for 4-6 weeks. Worked well for me with a musty old book.
