    mini rant: cordless phones

Okay. what brand of cordless home phone do you folks use?
I guess that question only applies to my fellow USA members. :-)

The best cordless phone we ever had was a Sony. It lasted us a good ten years or more before biting the dust.

Since then, we've had at&t, g.e., panasonic, uniden, motorolla....the works....2.4 mhz or 5.8...makes no difference as they're all freakin junk. $49...$79...$169..makes no difference.
The suckers last about a year, maaaaaaybe two and we still have to put brand new expensive batteries in em.

Nobody in the house has em glued to their ear 24/7 either. Am I just a victim of the old say, "They just don't make em like they used to"????

The one we currently have is Panasonic kx-tga560m and I am about to throw it thru the wall.....and the brand new $20 battery is only about 4 months old now. (And I have checked the charger station's connectors)

I need some good word of mouth advise before I go insane.
I'll budget upwards of $200 if you can tell me the phone you swear by.

V-Tech, one of those 4 phone systems with one major base station and 3 charging stations that Sam's was selling about 6 years ago. Replaced one battery so far, although I think another may be going south.

Uniden 5.8 Ghz (main one with base station plus two satellite phones). It's pretty craptacular. If I'm using the phone close to the base station it's fine, but if I use one of the satellite ones (in the bedroom and in the office downstairs), it's static city. I can't stand them. If anyone knows of any good models that aren't hideously expensive, I'd like to hear about them. Our previous one was a Pioneer phone that my wife brought back from Japan. It worked very well, but we needed a power converter to plug it in to the outlet, and it had a bunch of Japanese buttons on it that confused me.

Seems like the simpler cheaper phones actually last longer and perform better. I had a crappy phone free from a Time magazine promo that worked longer than any other phone I have ever had. Now we have an at&t one that pretty much sucks.

We've got an AT&T 900mhz that I picked up back in '01, it still hold a good charge & works just fine. It's well used, too.

                You bet they don't
Bought a set of 3 cordless phones couple of months ago and already had to send them back cause there was a problem with them. Just got them back this morning, wonder how long they'll last this time

I also have the same one purchased from Costco a couple of years ago. So far it has been the best cordless phone system I have owned and I believe the price tag is $80-90 for the entire 4 phone system.

I'd like to drop having a home phoneline but I am required to have a landline for my job. Yes, my job forces me to have a $22 a month bill.

I have a Motorola portable. It's silver and looks like those mini Nokia cell phones that were pretty popular about 7 years ago. It has a base unit with a digital recorder and you can get satellite units for different rooms in your house. I haven't had any problems with mine in the two years that I have had it but I also very rarely use it.
