Had to let our dog Hobbes go today. She was almost 16.
Her mind was young, but her body was old.
This morning, we gave her strawberries, her favorite. She hadn't had any for a while, because her digestion couldn't handle them anymore, but for once, she got to enjoy them again.
We've had several dogs now, but Hobbes was so gentle, she loved everyone and every creature. She could sit there watching a frog for an hour, just studying it. She just wanted to "meet and greet" and show her affection.
She was the last of our "kids". Landlords over here have practically banned pets in all their contracts. It took us two years to find a home with our dogs, and the lease still says "no pets". The landlord allowed them with the message "as long as they don't live too long".
I'm going to miss having Hobbes around. She was always happy, even when she got ill.
The house is really quiet now...
