RIP Nigel Terry - Excalibur's King Arthur

His movie debut came in 'The Lion in Winter,' and he went on to collaborate often with director Derek Jarman.

The defining King Arthur performance since 1981. Amazing how anyone, or any Arthurian production, who came after has paled. Off to Avalon...

I loved Excalibur but more-so years after seeing it at the drive-in when I was 11. I watched that movie so many times that I used to be able to do the dialogue ahead of the actors. Amazing to see Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson, Clive Swift from all those many years ago. But, Nigel played the King and an amazing job he did. Off to Avalon.

Arthur: [to Guinevere] I've often thought that in the hereafter of our lives, when I owe no more to the future... can be just a man... we might meet. You'd come to me, claim me yours, know that I am your husband.
[He starts to leave, then turns to face her]
Arthur: It is a dream I have.
[He leaves. She watches him go, knowing that she will never see him again]
