    Happy Walpurgis Night!

It's Walpurgis Day (April 30)! I guess in Europe it's a thing. Translates as Witches' Night or something like that. Czechs, Germans, Swedes recognize it.

For me, it's more important as being part of the great Paul Naschy film Werewolf vs Vampire Woman. And in the Lugosi Dracula, the peasants warn Renfield not to go to Dracula's Castle on account of it being Walpurgis Day. Plus, it's just darn fun to say "Valpurgis!!" with a hard "V" sound!

Perhaps even more importantly, it marks the exact halfway point until next Halloween! That's right, gang... you have six months to get your costumes ready.

I think a horror movie is in order for tonight.

It's not only in the Lugosi Dracula, it's in the original novel by Stoker as well.

Thanks for pointing this out! The above is one of the few Naschy films I've been fortunate enough to see, and of the three I've watched, it's the best.

sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Wowzers! I'm surprised anyone else here does anything special on this day. Cool.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Sounds like a fun day to celebrate! Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, even considering that my birthday is on Christmas Day hahaha

Interesting. I took donuts to work today and was looking for an obscure holiday/event to attribute them to in my e-mail. I would up saying that they were in honor of Michael Waltrip's B-day, but Walpurgis Day probably would've been more fun.

Boy, how much fun did Gaby have in High School with that last name? Walpurgis Day must have been a picnic when compared.
