If you remember Lance Russell and Dave Brown, you'll enjoy this.

I stumbled upon this today. I haven't followed wrestling since I was a kid. When I did, I watched these guys most Saturday mornings....Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Several of the biggest wrestling figures of the past 40 years came from Mid-South Wrestling.

This is from late last year and it's really good! It includes a lot of footage...Andy Kaufman, Jerry Lawler (this is where that whole thing began) and Hulk Hogan (before he was Hulk Hogan), Randy "Macho-Man" Savage, Jimmy Hart and all of that other fun stuff.

Two of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Lance and Mid-Atlantic's Bob Caudle are the two most underrated voices in the history of wrestling.

Lance lost his wife last year and his family has been keeping him busy and active by helping him get to many events celebrating Memphis wrestling. He is amazingly active and sharp at 89!

I highly recommend my friend Mark James' books on Memphis wrestling. His site is:

An amazing and in depth look at the history of Memphis Wrestling. The promotion featured men like Jerry Lawler, Jackie Fargo, Bill Dundee and many more.

Great stuff! I love that Lance couldnt remember that Ferris later went by "Honky Tonk Man". Kaufman was brilliant, and I still remember the slap from Letterman. Randy looks like a madman in that vid! I would have believed he had legitimately lost his marbles. Memphis had some if not THE best cut promos in the wrestling business.

That Mid-South Wrestling was the first stop for so many of the biggest characters in the past 50 years of professional wrestling.

In the video, Lance and Dave mentioned that they started, in wrestling, together in 1967! Wow! It's too bad that the entire country didn't get to see them and mid-south wrestling all those years ago.

Yeah, I didnt get to see Mid-South when growing up. Only knew them through the magazines and when AWA was doing Supershows with them. In Canada we had a wrestling show that had clips from different territories around North America, so could see some of their matches on there. So much wrestling on Youtube or Daily Motion that it is a great time to be a fan. I love to see the guys that became superstars before they were big names (like Brutus Beefcake in the video beside Hogan). What about when Lance was shaking his head when Jos LeDuc was cutting his forearm with the axe!? He must have been a ball of stress wondering what those guys were going to do on TV next. One of the old stars that was one of my all time favorites was "Dr. D" David Schultz and I saw an interview with him on Mid-South and he had a Nazi shirt on and said that Lawler couldn't get a tag team partner because he had AIDS. Could you imagine the uproar if that came on TV, now?

^ Yeah, I think a lot of those guys took it to the edge during those "interviews" between matches. I can recall wondering what the heck some of these guys were going to do next, on many Saturday mornings.
