It probably would have helped Peanut to have another dog around that didn't have the same issue for him to see and maybe learn that it wasn't so scary.
I appreciate the input guys. We briefly considered getting a second dog, or even a cat, but it seemed to be me specifically that Peanut was attached to. He needed a lot of distraction. Even my wife wasn't enough when we were both home. He literally followed me everywhere and If he couldn't (like going upstairs to the bathroom) or if he couldn't physically see me, he would just start crying and barking. He didn't do that with my wife.
He didn't even want to go back with his previous owner. He clung to me and wouldn't let go when I tried to hand him back. He was only okay once the guy got him home because he was reunited with his mother and a couple siblings.

My thoughts go out to you Dwayne. The other posts have good points. Our dog was attached to the whole family and there was never a point were he was alone for a long amount of time. I am glad that Peanut was able to adjust to the new setting. You did the right thing.
      It's all good!

Aww...that's so sad. I'm sorry, Dwayne, but you did the right thing. He's happy now, and that's what's important.
