Sammy Hagar follows unprompted, bitter VH review w/unprompted, bitter new song!

Jeez, it's obvious Dave's voice is shot, Sam!

And it's obvious you think you'd be a better fit for VH!

Wasn't your unprompted criticism of VH's new live album enough? Now a song?

Why not just let the issue go, already?

Haven't heard the song yet, I'll have to wait until I'm at home listen. Do we know when he started working on the song, it's been years and he's had so much fodder like when MA left VH after him. I wonder how many bitter songs he's written and stored away? I agree he should just let it go and rise above it all and never talk about VH. He made great tunes before and after and the band. What does he think, that it will be an non-hostile environment if he should ever work with those guys again? I bet it would be unpleasant both in the recording studio and on the road. For what it's worth VH is my favorite rock band and I like both singers. I even enjoyed the last album with Roth, but I wouldn't care to see the band live nowadays. I think Eddie will make sweet music until he can't play an instrument so we can look forward to fresh material or whatever he's locked away in the vault (like Prince.)

Sammy's a p*$ck. he made VH great???? please. "sold a lot of records" does not (and never will) equal "great." just look at what "sells" in this country!
stick to your "3 lock box" and "I can't drive 55" and your tequila.

I have to admit, I like Sammy better than Dave. not necessarily the music, but as a front man and as a person. Dave is a jackass. the van hagar years gave us some great music, but yeah, so did the first 6 albums with Dave. beyond that, VH has sucked. I lost all respect for the band after the games the VH brothers were playing with Sammy and Dave when they did the greatest hits package way back and then kicked both out and brought in Gary Sherone for the sucktacular VH 3

It goes without saying I love Sammy and do prefer him over Dave. As far as "greatness", that's subjective. Both front men enjoyed huge success, so that leaves a divide with fans. With regards to this latest rant, both with his review of the CD and this song, I find that embarrassing and insulting to his legacy. Clearly he's bitter and can't let it go. Making these public statements will not change that standing. Dave is giving his best and as a peer in the business, Sammy needs to step back and let him have his run. What I think of Sammy or Dave as artists really plays no role in this situation. This is about conduct and Sammy is not making himself or his fans proud. C'mon Sammy. Give it rest.

I'm reading these comments, and I don't know what exactly all of you are thinking, but something tells me I have to come out sooner than later and say "I" wrote those lyrics---not Sammy. I'm afraid, that some of you may think that he might've actually wrote this. (as it says at the top of the lyrics, it's to the melody of "Why Can't This Be Love?"---and "Weird Al", Sam is not)

Now---as with any joke---there is SOME "truth" to it.

Sammy (mostly via Howard Stern's radio shows) HAS indeed said most (if not ALL) of the things in the lyrics (in some form or another) in the past couple of decades. Should we blame that on Stern? I dunno.

But what REALLY makes me feel like sharing this parody---and titling the thread here the way I did---is that I know there are fans on BOTH sides of the fence in this "Roth Vs. Hagar" dogfight, and I think some of us have heard enough about Dave's horrible vocal performances from Sammy and from many other VH fans---and, well, the truth is that the recent Sammy interview, in which he critiques the VH live album, if you read it, you see that the writer explains that he tried to get Sammy NOT to talk about the new VH album, but Sam did anyway.

And, if that bitter bit was a publicity stunt on Sam's part to get press around this time when VH has a new album release that he can get some press off of? Well, then the "riding VH's coattails" sentiment of the parody (Why can't I be Roth?) was never any truer.

Either way, I take music debates very seriously, and at the same time, a lot of love for BOTH sides of the Sam/Dave "argument" went into those simple lyrics.

              Rock on, fellas!

Okay so you're admitting to creating a false story to bait an argument because you don't like Sammy? Okay I'm done with this. I didn't always agree with you Huedell, but I held you to a higher standard than this.

It's a joke! It's a dang parody song. Did you (of ALL people) REALLY think those lyrics were from a real song Sammy wrote? A "Weird Al" re-write of "Why Can't This Be Love?"

I mean, I know most of the stuff you've heard him say before: verbatim----so, why does that make ME the bad guy? Using Sammy's comments in a song parody.

                    Speaking of "baiting"?

Sammy baited EVERYONE by insisting on telling the reporter he thought Roth vocals stunk on the new album.

All I was doing was social commentary.

You're really being unfair about this.

I like Hagar alright, But this is Van Halen. In his day DLR was the man. His vocals were never that great live to begin with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOmHNsthoeo Hagar, on his own only broke the top 20 once "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy" #13. That's the best he ever did without Eddie.

Same here - Sammy would never write something so crappy. Too clever by halfling.
