It's been a long time since I've sold anything on ebay. Just curious about what the percentage is that ebay takes after auctions are over. By that I mean after all the listing fees, picture fees, final value fees, and the amount that Paypal takes what is the final percentage ebay has gotten out of say a $100 item? Has anyone done the math? Last time I tried to do the math was about 4 or 5 years ago when I was thinking about putting up a few Beatles items from my personal collection. I was going off of a few auctions of a friend of mine who used to do consignments on ebay. Back then, after everything was said and done, it looked to be about 14 - 15% on an item sold in that $100 range. I figure it has to be up near 20% by now with all the changes they've made. Also, does anyone think it will get worse when Paypal finally does split off from Ebay? Any help on this question is appreciated.

A lot of things you listed are now free, such as auctions, pictures and the BIN option. But the overall tally between EBay and PayPal used to be around 10%. I think it's changed somewhat since PayPal has been spun off from EBay. It looks like PayPal fees may have gone up. I haven't had a chance to really dig into it, but it at least frees Ebay to allow more payment options. -
Depending on how you list the item, you end values are a little different But - it still seems to be around the 15% mark when all is said and done for the ebay and paypal fees.
One big thing to watch out for is that shipping is included in the final value assessment of fees, so if you have a large shipping cost for insurance or something, it will increase your fees due.Comment

I tend to base my numbers on 20%, when you factor listing fees, final value fees, paypal fees etc... They get a piece of the shipping cost as well.Comment

BTW, thanks to all that answered. Just trying to figure out what I need to do if I were to put up some stuff I've been going through recently. Have a lot of comics in the personal collection that I purchased in the past 15 years or so that in some cases were impulse buys. Some of them good ones...but a lot more bad ones."When not too many people can see we're all the same
