I've always considered the Roth led Van Halen the "true" Van Halen. In all but a few examples I think when a band loses the original lead singer they should just change the name of the band if they are going to continue on with a new singer (Yes, I realize Eddie and Alex were where the name came from but still).
1984 is one of the best albums of the 80's in any genre (IMHO) but I haven't been interest in anything David Lee Roth's done since then, and I sure as hell don't want to see these guys in 2015.Leave a comment:

I just watched the clips from "Ellen." I thought Dave was in better form there... maybe he was just thrown off on Kimmel by getting his nose sliced open by that microphone. But the best moment was on their performance of "Dance the Night Away." On Kimmel Dave pulled a girl out of the audience for an "unscripted" dance session on the stage. I thought that was kind of neat, actually. Then on Ellen, Dave pulled one of Ellen's "production assistants" on to the stage to dance with him... and it was the same girl. I was LMAO.
This is why we'll probably never see a Steve Perry/Journey reunion.Leave a comment:

I knew it was over for Roth as soon as I saw Van Halen getting introduced at the '96 MTV Awards. The other 3 guys looked fine, but Diamond Dave had his pants up to his sternum and was walking around in a daze with his mouth open like he just escaped from Belleview. My wife walked in the room, saw Dave and asked if he recently had a stroke. It was a very awkward appearance. At one point, Dave cuts off Eddie at the mike so he can address the audience. Eddie had to walk away to calm himself; probably thinking, "Here we go again."

Man, Roth really got smacked hard by the rock gods. The once charismatic sex symbol with amazing stage presence has turned into your drunken, balding uncle with no rhythm, trying to imitate Roth. And Wolfie may want to start mixing in a salad every once in a while. I think he thought that by eating Michael Anthony he would acquire his skills; it didn't work.Leave a comment:

,Van Halen has been terrible for years. They've been a brand name and a t-shirt logo longer then they've been a band now. They really haven't been good since 1984 (the year & the album) and that was 31 years ago!
For those that have never seen it, here's the Spit Take's "4 Musical Performances That Will Ruin Your Childhood" which pretty much sums up exactly what you're getting when you walk into a VH show. (Of course Van Halen made the list.) Oh, is anyone crazy enough to buy tickets in advance for their summer tour? I mean there's a pretty good chance this band will implode about half way through their circuit since, you know, they really can't stand each other and that's been their standard operating procedure in concerts past.
Anyway, check it:
