    Rude awakening..........R.I.P. Perro Aguayo JR

Mexican wrestling star Perro Aguayo Jr was killed last night in a match involving Rey Mysterio Jr. I've followed Mexican wrestling for years, gotten to know some of the athletes and promoters and I am Facebook friends with many fans and people involved here in Los Angeles and Mexico.

So when I woke up this morning and checked my FB, the first thing I saw was footage from the actual match without realizing what had happened last night. I thought it was another just wrestling clip..........to my shock as I drank my morning coffee.....I saw some very disturbing video of this young man's last moments. I think it was ghoulish for this friend of mine to post such a video with no warning or set-up on his page.

It's been a rough day. May he rest in peace and thoughts and prayers to his family.

Was he expecting a different move? I havent seen when he was given the move, I just saw where he was laying on the ropes.

From what I saw it looked like the ropes whiplashed his neck when he took the dropkick, went unconscious and the ropes caused severe cervical trauma. I don't think it was Rey's fault, it's still disturbing that they worked the match for minutes after he was non-responsive. I'm sure all involved feel bad and accidents happen but this definitely isn't good for the already seedy reputation pro wrestling has.

Thanks for the info. Thats terrible. Its bound to happen from time to time in that type of profession.

From what I understand wrestlers are trained to continue the best they can when something happens during a match to distract the crowds and draw attention away from it. The ref. is suppose to have full communication with both the wrestlers and the crew back stage but I thought he seemed a little disengaged from what I saw. Hes suppose to have full control. From what I read so far backstage medical could have been better at this show.

I watched various angles of the match and I think the main reason why they went on performing is because just minutes before the accident, one of the other wrestlers had acted in a similar manner (only he was acting). So I don't think it was immediately clear this wrestler was in trouble. It's a very unfortunate accident, but an accident nonetheless. My condolences to his family and those fans who followed him.

Man, that is really sad. Honestly, it doesn't look like anything that happened in the seconds before contributed to his death. I think it could have been an aneurysm or something else that could cause sudden death. What a horrible shame. Much sympathy to his fans, friends and family.

Heard that the case is being investigated as manslaughter. Also heard that Mysterio was arrested but the sources are questionable,

I can understand it being investigated but it was accidental. They do even higher risk wrestling than normal. I still believe there was either a spot missed or a communication foul up.

Sadly, everything in Mexico is questionable...I know...I've lived there.

I used to travel there all the time too...but no more...no gracias.

Mysterio wasn't arrested, it was a fake article. He is receiving death threats though, which is very unfortunate.

It's come out that Aguayo Sr. is in bad health and wasn't told immediately.

Sad all around. Reminds me very much of Misawa's death.

It is an occupational hazard of the job, unfortunately. I hope nothing nefarious comes up, or any shortcomings in the medical attention on site.

From everything I heard Mysterio is one few the nicest guys in the business. It's sad he has to go though all this. After he recently returned to AAA. Aguayo is a huge star in Mexico as well he wasn't just some guy. Misawa and Candido were both excellent workers and died due to injuries in the ring. There is risk involved.
