I'm with you. I think a lot of stuff is overblown, and there are so many other factors. Take my dad...he's the oldest of three brothers and has smoked at least a pack a day for 50 years and is in great health. His two younger brothers never smoked a day in their lives and both died from cancer. One died almost 20 years ago from lung cancer and the other about 5 years ago from oral cancer. Go figure. And the one who died youngest was a health nut! Jogged, ate yogurt and birdseed, didn't drink, etc. Lot of good it did him.Comment

Let me ask you this: if you heard a story about somebody surviving a head on collision without wearing a seatbelt would you call into question the importance of wearing a seatbelt?Comment

You put garbage in your body on a daily basis (cigarettes, fast food, soda, etc), your body will eventually fail on you. Your body is like a car engine you feed it crap, it will perform like crap. This is why the obesity rate in this nation is at the highest levels, most people are on blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, blood thinners, and whatever else these doctors feed you now a days.
I watched my father survive three heart attacks because fast food was his enjoyment. The pain of watching him in a hospital was enough to know I will never put my son through that.
That being said, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy things, but it has to be in moderation.Comment

I'm sure there are people out there who smoke three packs a day and live to the ripe old age of 93.
My Dad was a smoker. When he got lung cancer, he lost over half of his body weight and it got to his brain as well. Not a nice way to go, I can tell you..

it's almost like your wishing for an early death.....I don't how many times people use that excuse "Gotta die of something" attitude, but when something bad happens, they wish they took better care of themselves.Take heed to the advice given. What you EAT MATTERS for optimal health and lifestyle (plus it will save you lots money from medical bills etc)Comment

I wouldn't take it that far, I mean I honestly don't think having a can of pop or 2 a day is killing anyone, sure excessive anything is going to kill people but all the chicken little's screaming Pop is gonna kill you is a bit B.Sish...if it was killing the hundreds of thousands of people where are the large class action suits against Coke and Pepsi Like the ones against the big tobacco companies?Comment

A couple Cokes a day isn't killing anybody. A couple Cokes a day, along with a Big Mac, a bag of Cheetos, a couple Twinkies, and sitting behind a desk at work for eight hours, then sitting in front of the TV for another six at night, THAT'S what is killing people.Comment

That and portions were smaller (dinner plates have doubled, not to mention soda bottles) and the amount of processed food they consumed changed for sadly the worse. Not to mention that real sugar is far easier to burn than high fructose corn syrup.
Look, I live in a glass house too, many of my meals are from gas stations, I like booze and used to love smoking. I ain't Charles Atlas.
The only people I care about what goes into them are my kids, you do what ever you want but let's not pretend the stuff is good for us. Everything in moderation is fine, this is true, life is to be enjoyed.
The head of my Karate association used to have a smoke and a beer after teaching. He lived to be a 1,000. He also worked out everyday and ate a lot of vegetables, so life is a balance.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Drinking a can or two of Soda a day WILL hurt you over time and will lead to eventual Diabetes (especially as you get older)But, people are so addicted to the taste that they just don't care until they are attached to a Dialysis machine just to keep them alive.Last edited by Teemu; Mar 21, '15, 10:50 AM.Comment

I watched my husband have a stroke at the age of 46.
He does not and has never: Smoked, drink alcohol, or done street drugs or prescription drugs.
He is not overweight. He is in reasonable shape (unlike me.)
And yet, he hit the genetic lottery when it comes to a rare blood condition that causes clots.
Life is too short. Enjoy what you like, in moderation. Use common sense, employ logic and be happy.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

People always talk about how kids are sitting in front of a tv or playing video games all the time instead of out playing and moving. It's true but adults have no room to talk when they do the same, just mostly sitting and not moving their bodies enough throughout the day. It's just as important if not more important to get some type of physical activity as we grow older. As we age we lose much more muscle and bone density at a higher rate. If anything it doesn't take that much time to take a short walk or take the stairs. We complain about today's kids but many of them learn their habits at home. As other's have said, we have to live our own lives and make our own decisions. I like things in moderation myself. In the end we're the ones who will have to answer to any choices, bad or good that we make in our lives. Do what you wish and make life as happy and enjoyable as you can. Myself, I feel much better physically and mentally living a healthy lifestyle.Comment
