    Spidey process

Thought you guys might find this interesting...
Here's the photo I used for my painting next to the final piece. It was the best one I could find, and I was very surprised how rough that show costume actually was up close. All the webs are clearly done with a marker.
Still, I didn't want to alter it, just clean it up a bit...kind of an idealized "how I remember it" versus how it really looks.

Interesting! For the times, I wouldn't say that's shocking since you didn't have companies mass producing professionally made Spidey suits, but it's still interesting to see the amount of work that went into one to make it look suitable for kids television. But THAT is the part I love about the old school shows. If someone loved a character, sometimes they had to problem solve by creating him or her from whatever was on hand. That raw construction is part of what gives them their appeal (IMO). I once created an entire Spider-man top from a long sleeve thermal under shirt. I colored the whole thing with markers and wore it a few times under sweatshirts in the winter. It might have been rough, but boy did I feel like a hero inside.

I like the changes that you made. That's how I remembered it to.

Did I mention I absolutely have fallen in love with this piece?

It translated well to television. I never would have known it was poorly drawn marker. And that pattern took some serious thought to map out.

Great job again with the painting. It shows what we imagined we were watching perfectly!

You and Tom are so right...kind of like back in the 70's when we all wore those plastic Halloween costumes. It's so funny how bad we actually looked compared to how cool we thought we looked.

This picture has a totally different spider on the chest. They must have had a few costumes for the show.

This is the same costume as the one you painted, but the eyes have been altered.

Wow, I never noticed how rough it was. Of course, we had crappy TV resolution back then, so...

                    Its a very good painting.

I never noticed that a marker was used. I have alot of nostalgia for The Electric Company. More than likely it was my introduction to Spider-man. I was 4 or 5 when I started watching it ('77-ish, which was probably half re-runs by that point).

I've been looking at pics from the Electric Co. show lately trying to work out a full fabric hood for a custom and noticed how rough the suit was. Nothing like spoiling my rosey memories. Your painting really does him up how I remember.

Cool nostalgic painting Dwayne---the EC Spidey was so nostalgic for me that the Yeti episode was a big "get" for me when someone finally posted it on YouTube many years ago.

And here's a re-edit of Lonnie's jpeg post, so as to fit in the context of this thread that much more...
