10 Vintage Items in Your Discount Dept Store Cart (A HardyGirl variation)

Inspired by Sharry's super-fun thread about your vintage grocery store cart, I started thinking about other vintage shopping carts.

My other posts about vintage canned drinks got me to thinking... if you went back in time, to the grocery store, and could bring 10 classic foods or drinks they no longer make back to the present w/ you...what would you bring back? My list: (in no particular order) 1) Peach Hi-C 2) Bird's Eye Cool and Creamy pudding (milk

Playing off the theme, if you went back in time, to a discount department store, and could bring 10 things OTHER THAN TOYS back, what would you bring. Me... I'm backing up the Vista Cruiser to the Two Guys on Lincoln Hwy in Levittown for

-Tube Socks- I remember trying to get color combos that matched NFL teams.

-A Bean Bag Chair - From the days when I didn't need back support

-Huffy Thunder Road Bike - It was definitely the cheap version of a real mountain bike, but it was my first passport to freedom!

-A Nylon Mesh Football Style Shirt- Yeah, it had holes to keep you cool, but they layered those numbers on with a 1/4" thick plastic ink to compensate. Somehow these made me feel like a real athlete.

-Panasonic TNT Plunger 8-Track- few things bring back 70's nostalgia then Panasonic's lines of brightly colored, portable music equipment.

-Ghostland Lunch Box - sure, there are a bunch way more cooler lunch boxes, but this is the one I had in 2nd Grade and I loved that it had a working game with spinner on the back. I think we even played this lame game at lunch.

-Official NFL Parka Vest- I sincerely believed having my arms unencumbered by sleeved made me more agile playing Nerf football.

-A Console TV - OK, I'm gonna need help lugging this back. Who's willing to back with me?

    - A Pair of Knock-Off Wallabees - I don't think I even knew the cheapie versions I had were inspired by something called Wallabees. These were the first shoes I ever wanted when I started to become aware of fashion. I love that had Walter White wear them on Breaking Bad.

-Lunch at the Food Counter - It was always a super treat to get to have lunch at the greasy food counter. I couldn't bring the food back, but I'm sure the heartburn would make the trip.
    WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

Hey! Are you horning in on my action? It's always a compliment when I can inspire other cool threads! So thanks! (BTW...I have a Panasonic red "Take-N-Tape" and "Toot-a-Loop" radio even now!) And I'll help you w/ the console TV set w/ built-in stereo. I still want one of these really bad!

    Now let's see...

    1) Gym shorts- You know the kind I mean. Available in endless colors w/ the stripe down the side and around your legs.

    2) Buster Brown shoes- in the 70s, these sturdy brown, gum-rubber soled shoes w/ the pictures on the side were oh so cool, and I had some almost every year in grade school. I'd Like Topsies, Honeys, Chaws, Bigfoot, and CU Lators.

    3) Celebrity Tees- As a kid I had Fonzie, JJ Dyn-O-Mite, and Freddie Prinze (Chico). I'd also like Shaun Cassidy (I have 12 now), the Jackson 5 and Charlie's Angels.

    4) Satin Baseball jacket- I do have one now (my friend had one made for me), but as a kid I always wanted the one Tito Jackson wore that said "The Jacksons" in flaming letters on the back.

    5) A Partridge Family lunch box (well I already have The Hardy Boys!)

    6) Food items: Bird's Eye Cool and Creamy Pudding, Bird's Eye Thick and Frosty shake mix and Jeno's Pizza Snack Trays. My menu on a Friday night, watching the ABC line-up.

    7) Bell Bottoms: I loved my bell bottom jeans w/ the cool stitching and fun shapes sewn on!

    8) Dr. Denton 2-piece footie pajamas- I love watching Saturday morning cartoons wearing these.

    9) Castro Convertible coffee table- this thing went from a living room coffee table to a dining table for 8! Perfefct for the holidays when you don't have a dining room.

    10) A Custom-Mode Wall Unit- (this thing is monstroous, can I get some help carrying this back?) This epic piece of furniture was about 8 ' x 9' and came complete w/ stereo, built in speakers, TV, mirrored bar, artificial fireplace, and storage cabinet. It came in pieces, so maybe several of you can help me?)

    This was fun! Thanks!

These are cool threads. I'd definitely take advantage of the vinyl selection of most dept. stores. I'd lve to get my favorite albums in fresh condition.

Love seeing that picture of the console TV.

My sis had one just like it --------

During a party (in the 70's) I accidently spilled a soda on it rendering it basically useless.

My sis said "no big deal" --- but my bro-in-law was ready to kill me.

To this day whenever he looks at me it's with an evil smirk that probably wishes I was dead --- he's like 76 years old now

My sis kept him in line all these years ............

          Sorry for trailing ............

What was this this about ?

I lived in Mexico from ages 7-14, and the rage there in the 70s was the Raleigh Chopper bicycle and Exorcistas shoes from the shoe company called Canada.

And many of you would appreciate this 1970s era Mexican commercial featuring Exorcistas shoes...and a bootleg Wonder Woman...those wacky Mexicans, lol...

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

*bump* C'mon guys, this is a cool thread! A lot of you were talking about those department stores that have disappeared from your areas, but what items from those store would you bring here to the future if you could?
