Going this week. I loved Kick-Arse, so I'm hoping for some fun here.

I had to laugh. Saw an interview with Samuel Jackson, and he said "Oh go see Kingsman… It's a better Date Movie than 50 Shades of Grey. You can't make Kingsman at home. You can make 50 Shades of Grey at home, and it'll probably be better than the movie!"

One of the things I loved most about Kingsmen was the clear fluid storytelling in the frenetic fight scenes... you could actually tell what was happening and follow what was going on despite the completely over the top crazy lunatic action sequences. Too many movies these days rely on shaky cam jump cuts in place of choreography.

And I think a young Colin Firth totally could have been a great James Bond back in the day.

Saw it today. FUN movie! Kingsman is to Spy movies as Kick-Arse was to Superhero films.

It's as though they soaked up all the fun and joy that has been wrung out of the James Bond franchise. And the script pretty much states that precisely. I will take this over modern Bond any day. Samuel Jackson was terrific. And Colin Firth!?!? Who knew he could be so great?

Not the 10 out of 10 I gave to Kick-Arse, but this is a helluva good time at the flicks.

It was fun. A good throwback to the old Bond films, but with more violence and swearing.

It was a fun movie. I did enjoy it but one thing kept nagging at me. Eggy's dad was a Kingsman and when he dies the Kingsman's take care of their own by giving the family a worthless medallion with a favor "should they ever need it." Really? They couldn't take care of their own with a sizable life insurance policy. I mean that whole kids upbringing isn't so much based on the fact that his father died when he was a lad but the fact that the highly dangerous secret organization that his father worked for didn't have a contingency plan in place to take care of the family should something happen to him while on the job. That just bugged the crap out of me the entire film. Well, that and Sam Jackson. Am I the only one that's just sick of seeing him in anything?

You make a good point, but none of that occurred to me. I usually go with whatever logic a comic book story needs me to within reason. But yeah, in retrospect they didn't do a good job of taking care of his family. But then if they had, wouldn't be much of a movie. I guess they could've not mad Eggy the son of a Kingsman, and find another way to bring him in.

I really enjoyed Sam Jackson chewing the scenery.

Well yeah there could have been a movie but instead of making him the underdog, he would have been just as privileged as the rest of the kids in his group but for some reason, every movie needs to up the ante just a bit and have the hero as the underdog. Look to just about any modern Disney movie for an example of this. I call this the "Finding Nemo" effect. I mean it wasn't bad enough that that fish had to grow up without a mother, which in and of itself is an obstacle to overcome, they had to give him a deformed flipper too.

Rooting for the underdog dates back to David and Goliath! We love thinking that even we could beat the big guy/frat boy snob/big corporation/cobra kai trained at his own game.

I really enjoyed this movie. The fights scenes were indeed over-the-top fun you could follow. It was a bit uneven at times, but overall a fun ride. I understand they went in hoping to make a sequel.

Did no one mention Mark Hamill is in this movie too?

He appeared as himself in the comic book, but a different character in the movie.
