A place we have been all too often

Ok so the story begins with a Item that I purchased and the Seller (WHO DID EVERYTHING PERFECTLY) He had it marked for shipping 2 day priority with Insurance and Signature Confirmation. The package was to be delivered on this Monday the 2nd, but for those of us on the North East Coast we knew that may be a problem because the Post Office motto is no longer Neither Rain nor Snow Nor Gloom of Night... Boy are those days long past... But I am ok with that no one needs to DIE delivering my package, so no harm no foul. I checked the tracking next morning and low and behold it is in the Bronx on the truck and out for delivery.... Yaaa... I make my daughter take a day from school because of the still bad weather and the streets and Sidewalks are not terribly clean and My Mother of 83 years is Downstairs in her Basement apartment as well Just in case... The Postal carrier Arrives... Climbs the flight of stairs up to my door rings the bell and my Daughter answers ready to sign... She is 16 so the Postal carrier stops her... Says she can't sign (I'll get back to this later) my daughter says ok My Grandmother His Mom is downstairs she can sign... the postal carrier looks down and out loud says OH HELL NO I'M NOT GOING BACK DOWN THERE... WHF!!! She had to go back down the stairs anyway to resume her rounds would the other 2 mins have killed her??? on top of that she didn't hand the slip to my Daughter she place it in the Mail box... My Daughter called me Livid... Needless to say I was as well. I Immediately get on the phone to the post office, surprise surprise they close precisely at 5 and do not pick up the phone after hours "I wonder why" so I call the main number to file a complaint against the carrier and to get my $26 shipping fee returned... The postal employee was very pleasant and helpful and ^^^ remember this (I'll get back to this later) proceeds to tell me that a 16 YEAR OLD CAN SIGN FOR THE PACKAGE!!! ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME!!! Now the package is not being attempted again the next day for delivery, I have to now go to the Post office and Pick it up... the Hours are 9-5 wonderful my job hours are 9-5... So now I have to miss an hour of work to go get this... It gets better, I walk into the post office nice and calm hand the slip and my ID to the gentleman behind the glass, he goes to and fro from one side to the other in one corner to the other in one door out another... Comes back to the window and says sir we are searching for the package please stand to the side... My confidence is fading fast now... A few mins later a lady calls me over with my slip in my hand and proceeds to ask me "so you want this package picked up from your house for delivery"??? That's it I'm DONE!!! Now I start my tirade... Go thru the whole story above and tell them ENOUGH YOU BETTER FIND THAT PACKAGE... She tells me to calm down "I'm trying to help YOU"... The BALLS, a half hour later they find my package, she comes over with another woman who she proceeds to tell "you help him I don't want to" so the lady who tries to give me the package doesn't know the procedure only makes me sign the card and is ready to hand me the package instead of signing the electronic pad... That lady then tells me "I'm the one who Attempted Delivery of this Package... Well let's just say she was lucky thete was bullet proof glass in between us!!! So I'll I could get it was you should be EMBARRASSED... Good Effing JOB!!!
So I say to you when is service NOT service... $26 for 2 day priority insured sig conf delivery that turned into 4 day non delivery me going to pick it up myself at the Post office, I don't think my reaction was wrong and after I was treated today I don't feel bad filing my complaint and asking for a shipping refund... Let's see where this goes.
Sorry for being long winded and letting me vent.

I feel your pain. I think by now everyone on these boards knows my opinion of the USPS.
I have never encountered a worse bunch of incompetent friggin' morons in my entire life. They DESERVE to go out of business.
They have denied a $1500 insurance claim and two appeals from me despite eight pages of documents and a letter of admission FROM THEM proving they lost the package.
Making it worse is their pretending to "care" about your situation. They don't. As long as they get paid they don't give a rat's behind.

Oh, I can beat that, UPS is far worse. One day a couple weeks ago, I come home to find a sticker on the door from UPS saying that they attempted delivery. It was a parcel from the US, and there was $25 brokerage fees due on it that needed to be paid before we could get the package. I wasn't expecting anything from the US so I had no idea what it could be. The driver comes back the next day, my wife was home so she answered the door. She didn't want to pay the $25 until we knew what this even was and who sent it. She asked the driver if she could call me at work and read the senders name to me to see if it rang a bell. He said "No, I've already wasted enough time with this package". My wife tries to reach for the phone anyway, and the driver literally throws the slip on our porch, runs, yes runs to his truck and peels off before she could call me.

When I got home I read the senders address and realized what it was (new EZPass toll tags to replace our current ones, I didn't know they were sending them). Soooo, I finally find someone from UPS on the phone (it wasn't easy!) who could tell me where my parcel is so I could just go pick it up. They gave me the address and said it would be there until the 29th. I leave work an hour and a half early so I could go pick it up at the warehouse several days before that date, and guess what, it was already sent back to the US. I was so mad, I really had to restrain myself from yelling and swearing at the UPS employee that told me that. I told her my whole story and complained how they failed on so many levels here, but I'm sure it was on deaf ears, they know they suck and don't care.

I'm in the customs brokerage business, and it is well known in our industry how inept UPS tends to be, but they are too big to care. (Fedex isn't much better) I always advise our customers to go with the smaller carriers and never use UPS or FedEx myself. *sigh* That's my sad story.....

It's just Sad really... Does no one have pride in what they do anymore... If your at work solely to collect a paycheck your probably dooming that Company... And what's the point of a tracking system if you can't find the damn package, the one who asked me "oh you want this picked up from your house" then asks me to Describe the package lol you can't mak this up lol.

don't even try and call usps regarding insurance for an international package that was lost. i was on hold for 45 minutes every time i called them and it took me 6 months and 4 phone calls to their 800 number. can you imagine being on hold for 45 minutes just to talk to a person who will then transfer you to another department? geez................

I once sent a package to Spain, registered mail.
            It got lost.
The woman at the post office literally said (without shame): "Registered mail means nothing, these get lost all the time."
She said it in a tone that felt like "it's your own fault, for sending a package in the first place, you stupid customer".
            .
            .

So very sorry that happen to you Bronxboykev. That stinks and I would have been just as upset. No question. To me that was first and foremost an employee issue. I would do everything in my power to find out who that was, and locate her boss, and raise cane from there, because she violated company rules more than once here. But do you know the quickest way to make this (or any other company) hop on your request? Post the complaint (tactfully so) on their Facebook page. Emphasize where the carrier failed to follow company guidelines which resulted in you not getting the service you paid for. If you walk it along those lines, it gives the company a doorway to jump in and help you fast and flush out the bad person. I bet you get an IM from them within 24 hours or less. Social media is a powerful tool in resolving service disputes with companies because they don't want that kind of bad press. That's been my experience.

It makes me feel bad and lucky that my local PO and carrier are very kind.

It also helps that he's a fellow collector. I see him at the local antique malls and shows all the time. His kid is disabled but LOVES vintage video games, so I'm always tipping him off when I find a dealer who just stocked a new stack of old cartridges.
