I enjoyed seeing all the past cast members, and it was pretty well put together. Bass-O-matic was fun, so was Weekend Update with Jane Curtin, & Jeopardy.
The modern era was wasted with the lame Californians, which is pretty much just them talking weird. A one off sketch they insist on repeating. The 10 minutes kissing Eddie Murphy's butt to get him on the show was ridiculous too. After all that buildup from Rock, I expected at least some standup but nothing. Same with Chevy Chase (who doesn't look too good).
Wish theyd done more with Billy Crystal, and some more characters they ignored like Ed Grimley.
There were some missing cast members too, like Victoria Jackson, Christopher Guest, Rich Hall, Rob Schneider.... Even Garrett Morris only cameoed. With that many great comedians in the cast, and so much stuff to choose from, it seemed silly to bring in Melissa McCarthy and the rest to ape what the others do better. Why have her do Chris Farley when there are already much better clips of the real thing?
As far as music, Miley being normal was a nice surprise, Paul Simon was excellent , I won't comment on Kanye, and can they just make Paul McCartney part of the band officially? I think he's on the show like every other week now.

I can see why Christopher Guest wasn't there --- heard he's kind of a d___ in real life

I lost interest after the first 15 min....was looking forward to seeing more full-length vintage clips. Gave up and downloaded the app...it's got thousands of full-length original sketches. Couldn't imagine sitting through all 3.5 hours of that last night.

Hate to say this, but McCartney sounded horrible. What's up with that? Other than Paul butchering 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and Kanye's involvement, I enjoyed the show.

Didn't see the show but McCartney is like 100 years old .......

IMO, him just showing his face should earn him like a grammy

In like 200 years Mc will be required as an Old Master God

I enjoyed it but it seemed really strange to celebrate a live show that has great timing with a special that had such lousy timing.

Some of it started to feel like a weird Branson show but whenever you're self referencing, I guess that is bound to happen.

Kayne West shouldn't have been there. Seinfeld and Larry David congratulating themselves was awesome.

At the two-hour mark, my attention was beginning to lag. I commented to my wife that "I always lament that the 90-minute show is never enough, but the 3-and-a-half hours is just too much." She reminded me that we could bail on the show, but I replied: "I was there watching the very first episode as it was broadcast live 40 years ago, and I'm going to make it through this one."

Glad I did... it was worth the effort.

...And I say that with more conviction than you can possibly imagine. I ordered pizza delivery so we could watch the program without interruption, but I cracked my fresh-root-canal tooth on the second slice (less than 20 minutes into the show), which caused me extreme discomfort for the remainder of the program. Now waiting until I can see my dentist on Wednesday...

That's because he had a sore throat. He played a Valentine's gig Saturday night in NY at Irving Plaza. When you're in your 70's your voice, just doesn't bounce back like when you're just 17...you know what I mean....lol

Nick the lounge singer singing the Love Theme from Jaws was a riot.

I just caught the second half of it, it was nice to see (almost) everyone, but it felt a bit underwhelming IMO. I enjoyed Seinfeld's part though, loved his comment that he and Larry David "had the last two tickets to Disneyland before it burned down", it's sadly true considering today's pop culture climate and how media is consumed so much differently these days.

When I first read this several days ago, I thought maybe that's right. I hadn't seen those old episodes in a long time. But, this weekend, they aired on VH1 Classic and I thought they were very funny! The original not ready for primetime players were great up to, at least, the end of the 1970s, in my opinion. (I realize that some of them left before the end of the decade)

I enjoyed it for the most part . I watched it today and was able to FF through the commercials(and Kanye, who I can't stomach )
Growing up and watching since 75, it was pretty cool seeing everyone participate.
I thought it was well done. I felt worried about Chevy after seeing him. Hope he is ok
