Man, everyone said stuff that I myself would say to define my commentary experience. I too am interested in the film making process particularly story elements of which are more prevalent when a book or real life story must be adapted for a feature film. I also agree with Mike that many times there's frustration when they're not talking about the actual movie.
BUT----I thought the one "new" thing I could bring to the table, T-bolt just did, right there above^^^. I tip my hat to thou.
Like the Spinal Tap concept itself, the DVD commentary for it is fresh and original----and funny.
