marvel has announced the upcoming secret wars will end with the obliteration of both the marvel universe and the ultimate universe and- like dcs crisis everything will start over- wiping out 60 years of continuity.
^The Marvel Universe I once knew and loved died a long time ago. So, this doesn't really matter to me. All my comic money has gone towards back issues and Marvel Masterworks for years now.
Exactly. For me, continuity ended when they created the "clone clause" and suggested everything I read in the late 70's for Spider-man was invalid and nullified. Then they resurrected Norman Osborne. Sorry... OUT! So now I guess Spider-man will get yet ANOTHER costume tweak. Do you think he'll get a raised collar like all the DC heroes? Sad...
I wish these companies woulds stop imitating each other and ...I don't know...INNOVATE?!? DC and Marvel have been chasing each others tail for years. Just tell us good stories and forget the hype.
I'm with Dwayne on this. It's sad, but as any Universe expands, my interest seems to decline like an inverse proportionality. I like the early years when the Marvel Universe was small, manageable, and you felt like you were part of a small club if you participated in it. All titles seemed to be for the most part on the same page. But when things grow, staff comes and go, opinions change, sales ebb and flow, and the stories become so overpopulated, you need to hit the nuke button and rebuild from time to time. I get it. But I like old, colorful comics better anyway.
The Marvel universe reboots every couple of years anyway.
I think they have it programmed into their computers. Some guy in a suit at accounting then says "time to try and make some more money off this...this year, Spidey will be green and orange, Punisher will be asian and gay, and the Avengers will start a pizza delivery service..."
I've stopped reading new comlcs, and I have stash of about 5,000 vintage ones calling my name. You know when a company has lost sight of its target audience, when the fans get nostalgic for a falling down drunk Tony Stark...

I stopped myself from posting a tirade about this last week when the big announcement was made. Not because "it's ending", but it's being done in atypical half-truths and flat-out lying,
The gist is they're not rebooting and everything that's occurred in the main universe is still cannon, but the Ultimate Universe and maybe others are being "collapsed" into it.
First, not one arse-kisser had the backbone to ask any of the Editors why are they now integrating the Ultimate Universe, when they said ad nauseum upon it's debut it would never intertwine with the Main?
We all know why. The film/tv division is now the dog wagging its tail. But instead of admitting that, one of the other editor arseclowns comes out and says "the comic division isn't mandated by the film division. Our artists just end up incorporating their designs".
If that's the case, why isn't an editorial edict put forth that states to not swipe or model off of the movies? Because it's expected to keep visual uniformity so non-readers will associate the two as being one property.
This isn't fanboy rage. I haven't bought a monthly in lord knows how long. I just cannot take the dishonesty. At least DC said their multiversity storylines really have no bearing outside of what sells. So you could end up with total divergent approaches being housed. That's much better than the 52 approach.
Someone give Dazzler my number! Tell her that I'll take care of her, while the rest of her Universe perishes in flames!
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
On the one hand, I see the point of the old guard. Stan and Jack are really hard to top. On the other, I see the need to move forward, but the sliding timescale was working. its comics, they don't need to explain why a story in the 60s is still canon in the 2010s, it just is.....
I dunno, I loved COIE. It fixed a lot, but screwed a lot up. But I felt the DCU was finally moving along again when they chose to wrap things up.
And now I'm more into Marvel, and they're pulling the rug out too? What's a geek to do?
So apparently there’s something about a new Secret Wars Marvel project, and something about ret-conning some Marvel history when it all shakes out. Clay pigeons loaded… Off we go. Anyon…
I'm feeling like this might be some kind of covert crossover like they used to do back in the day with JLA and Avengers, especially with BOTH Convergence/Multiversity and Secret Wars happening on top of each other, and both having very prominent analogues showing up. Remember when they introduced Squadron Supreme the same month they introduced that team with Silver Sorceress and Blue Jay etc.
New Avengers recently fought a couple of Justice League analogues, including JMS's Supreme Powers Squadron Supreme. Multiversity Guidebook has at least two analogous Avengers Teams as far as I can discern.
I really loved the return of a close enough to classic Captain Marvel Family in Thunderworld. Hopefully they will continue to show up post-Multiversity/Convergence.
