We run ours once or twice a day. We even put in stuff (like steak knives) that you are not suppose to.

I can't see how you guys would rather put up with at least a half hour of ungodly machine roaring rather than spend a few minutes hand washing a few dishes

Dishwashers dont seem to clean very good from my experience, so I handwash. Margarine and peanut butter most definately dont come off with them.

Ours is extremely quite and we run it right before we go to bed. Bedrooms are in the back - even if it was loud wouldn't be able to hear it.

I just wash by hand and place the dishes/utensils in the plastic dish rack to air dry...

And BTW, those Cascade Platinum pods work great!

the newer machines are pretty quiet so that is not an issue. you should not run the DW when you are not around to monitor it. if it malfunctions and leaks you will have awful mess by morning

Because it is just the two of us, when we built our house thirteen years ago, I didn't put in a dishwasher. However I did put in a spot with plumbing and a cheaper cabinet base in case I ever changed my mind. That time came about seven years ago when one of my many falls shattered my left wrist. Ed would have thrown all our dishes away before ever washing one. It has been a life saver the three times my hand/wrist/arm has been in a cast.

When all my bones are intact, some weeks I use it, other weeks, like this one, so far, it is easier to hand wash. I tend to be a wash-as-I-dirty cooker. It can also take the two of us quite a while to fill the dishwasher. I'd say I use it about 25% of the time, otherwise, I handwash.

Living on my own, I actually gave my dishwasher away, no point, As much as I enjoy cooking, I have a amazing milk bar that serves great home cooked food for $6 a meal, at that price there is no point cooking myself, so no dishes to clean

If you leave the dishes out in the rain for a night or two, all you need to do is quickly rub them against your sweater and they're clean.
If you then shower with your sweater on, you're good...

I wash by hand. When I had a dishwasher, I scrubbed the dishes clean with a scrubber and rinse before putting them in the machine. It made more sense to just add soap to the scrubber and towel dry and skip the machine. Hand washing is far superior to machine washing!

When I was single I washed by hand as I went. Pretty easy when you have one dish and a cup. Now that I'm married and have a kid, dishwashers are so more convenient and faster when you have many dishes to do. We fill it everyday.....

This, even when there was a two of us, we never used the one we had. As soon as a kid entered our lives, it became essential.

Hand washing is better for certain things, but not all, from my experience.

For pots, skillets, spatulas, yes, hand washing is best. But for porcelain plates and glasses, I'm sorry...dishwasher gives them that spotless super shine that I have not been able to duplicate by hand.

Yeah, with two kids, we really depend on our dishwasher, and it's super quiet too. But I think we will need to get a new one soon, the membrane over the set of buttons on the top of the door is starting to fall apart...
