I strongly dislike price skimmers. On eBay and well as toy shows/shops. Notice I said strongly dislike. This hobby isn't anything to hate enough about.

People that scalp children's toys at Christmas. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Well about 3 weeks ago I ordered a couple hundred dollars of Battlestar Galactica stuff from Entertainment Earth (an Xmas gift to myself bc, despite having several presents from me to my significant other under the tree this year, for whatever reason there weren't any for me). But I never received the package. The tracking info said it was delivered, so I called FedEx as I'd chosen FedEx SmartPost super-saver/free shipping. FedEx was zero help, they told me I had to call the local post office as USPS actually delivered the package (apparently FedEx SmartPost means USPS 'piggybacks off' a FedEx truck, whatever that means). The post office simply gave me the postal inspector's number, with whom I was on hold for over fifty minutes before a woman told me I was supposed to contact my local post office about the matter. After I told her I'd already done that and they referred me to her, she rudely said "Sir, we're just an answering service, all I can do is take your information and direct you to your local post office."
No one could tell me how to follow up or help. Finally I called EE and told them about the circle of f*ckery I'd experienced, and they helped me replace the items. I assume the package was stolen. Luckily I was able to replace the items, but there's something very violating about having a package stolen from your front door step (the third time in the 7yrs I've lived at my residence). It makes you mistrust everyone in your neighborhood.
In the meantime I opened up a Mattel Batman '66 Batmobile I'd ordered from Target.com last year for my loose Batman collection, but hadn't gotten around to opening yet. I inspected it when I got it, and it seemed fine, but when I opened it there was this big shiny silver paint smear on the driver's side rear fin...
If it had been on the passenger side it might not have bothered me so much, but this was the side I wanted to display and it's a bit of an eyesore. Of course it's too late to return.
Fast forward a few weeks and I decided to finally start my Masterpiece Transformers collection (something my significant other actually asked for a list of which I assumed meant Xmas present, but again for whatever reason that didn't happen lol) I ordered a Masterpiece Optimus Prime and a couple deluxe Transformers (Arcee & Chromia) from Big Bad Toy Store. Again, a few hundred dollars. I chose UPS shipping and signed up for MY UPS (which has very little advantages unless you pay for a premium $40 membership) that allowed me to schedule the delivery day for the Transformers shipment. It was another $5 but I knew I'd be there to accept it. About the same time, I took advantage of Entertainment Earth's Venture Bros. sale and ordered another hundred there. The EE parcel only offered USPS with free shipping, so since I'd been able to replace the last order without issue, I went ahead again with FedEd Smart Post/free shipping, tracking the shipment daily.
Well, despite leaving a note on the front door for the UPS driver to please knock loudly, that I was indeed home and on the other side of the door, they simply left an info notice and I had to reschedule the delivery again. It came the next day, the package I'd been so excited for - I've wanted to start a Masterpiece collection for years now (and been waiting for a G1 Arcee for about 30 years!). I pulled out my big, beautiful Optimus Prime and the first thing I saw was the Autobot logo on the side of his trailer...
Looks like this $200 figure has already been in the hands of a five-year old for a good few years with those battle scrapes. What the hell...And it doesn't appear to have been opened and returned. It'll have to be returned now tho. Aaaaaand BBTS is sold out of these now, so there's that.
Well, at least I have the ladies right? I popped out Arcee and transformed her to car mode...or attempted to. Her left ankle will not fold into place. There is a factory defect of excess plastic preventing it so in car mode the bottom of the car forever has a piece of plastic (her left foot) jutting down, preventing the car from sitting flush to the ground. It's bizarre.
And Chromia, well Optimus and the Batmobile weren't the only victims of the errant paint brush.
So they're all going back. But I still have those Venture Bros. coming, right? What's that, tracking number? They were already delivered yesterday, a day earlier than projected? So yeah, no package from Entertainment Earth again. Second package stolen from my front door while I was away in the span of 2 weeks. And some of those items (BBP's Billy Quizboy & Molotov) are now out of stock. Guess that money will go toward my new surveillance cameras.
I think that about covers my collecting pet peeves for 2015 so far. Aside from the Keaton Batman figure I won in a bet with my significant other, who is now doing everything he can to forget that said bet ever took place, despite my reminding him every few hours lol. On the whole, not a stellar start to the new year for this collector.Last edited by Harbingerboy; Jan 19, '15, 3:41 AM.Comment

Toys that fall apart!!
I got some Venture Bros. 3 3/4 inch figures for Christmas and they are not very good quality. My Brock lost his head to me trying to turn it. Same with Phantom Limb. I fixed the Phantom Limb head and then his arm came off. The soft plastic sticks in the joints for some reason and the limbs just come off. The toys nowadays just fall apart. It's really frustrating, because I don't abuse the figures at all. I just want to pose them. My Monarch figure almost lost his head, so I quit trying to pose him.Comment

In 1991 I went to a con here in Houston at the George R. Brown convention center. It was the first MAJOR toy con here, and the organizer brought in all of these big dealers from NY and California who wanted to charge NY and California prices, which people here will not pay, so no dealer there made table and it was also the last MAJOR toy con here. At this con there was a dealer who had all 6 Mego Star Trek aliens from the 3.75 inch line. He wanted mint on mint card price and would only sell them as a set. He wouldn't believe me when I told him he would not sell them here because they were not even mint cards. Of course I was right, as usual, because he took them home with him and did not make table. More recently the people who post outrageous prices on items not worth that much on Ebay. I really miss the magazines with the reliable price guides in them that controlled this kind of blatant stupidity.

Modern collector "toys" that fall apart are also my bane. I know these aren't meant for rough child's play, but if something breaks out of the package, or falls apart while standing on a shelf, then your quality control is non-existent, and should be addressed. Also, when a company like Hot Toys has an item like say a Captain America shield, where the paint starts to flake off for no reason, and they do nothing to rectify this with consumers who have paid close to (and many times over) $200 for their product. That's highway robbery.

Also, sellers who take apart perfectly good toys and then sell the parts for ridiculous prices! (Trader By Nature and others)."Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

The attitudes of Star Wars collectors in general...
I sure hope our Mego community never adopts their attitudes about repros and just about everything else related to their "hobby". Sometimes, when I need a good laugh, I just go to the "Watch out" forum linked above, and read.Last edited by cockyhoskins; Jan 19, '15, 12:21 PM.Comment
