I thought I saw a ghost when I was around 14 or so years old.

I was leaving a friends house around 3AM and paused by the side of their house to take a wizz, as I was doing that I glanced down into their cellar/basement, this was an old house with the cellar entrance on the outside.
The door was open or just not there anymore.
At the bottom of the stairs I saw a white translucent figure "standing" there.

I quickly zipped up and casually walked around the corner of the house and then RAN LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL!!! and didn't stop until I got home about a mile away.

I think it was probably a World record mile if someone had been timing it.

Earlier the night we were sitting in an old Volkswagen in the alley by his house and the whole car started this weird shaking/vibration that lasted about 10-15 seconds.

I have thought here recently that it could have been an Earth tremor of some sort. I never experienced anything like that before or after.

I was already spooked that night by that little experience, so did I think I saw an apparition later that night? I don't know but at the time it was a very weird , scary night.

More recently, about ten years ago I didn't "see" a ghost but heard a ghost or "ghostly footsteps".

I told this story and probably the other one too a couple years ago. I'll try to give you the short version.

This happened at a place I used to work, this place used to rent a small area of a huge what used to be Farm implement manufacturing plant.

A lot of this plant was in very poor shape, some parts of it were from the very early 1900s.

Anyway, I would take off on my "lunch breaks" sometimes and go exploring in these abandoned areas.

One day I ventured up into a second floor locker room, I had been up there before snooping around.

This time was a little different. I started into the very dimly lit locker room corridor. There was no electricity in these areas anymore so there was no flipping a lightswitch on. The only light came from old "skylight" type windows

and in this area those were at the opposite end of the locker room.

The lockers were on my right and I started down the corridor looking down the aisles of lockers. In the center of this corridor on the left was a staircase.

As I got within 12 or so feet of this staircase, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. I FROZE!

I am basically in an area, I am not supposed to be in and depending on who it is, they might not be too happy when they come around the corner and see me.

So I stand frozen, waiting, listening to the footsteps come up the stairs. At the top of the stairs is a small entry way and then two huge double doors that are open, but I cant see anything because I am off to the side of this staircase.

The sound of the footsteps come within a couple feet of the entrance to the hallway, one more step and we will be eye to eye and then they just quit.

At this time, my mind is racing, what to do? what to do? I am totally expecting someone to come into the hallway any second and I stand frozen there for a minute, no one comes through and there is no sound of anything anymore. I start slowly walking backwards, keeping my eyes on the entrance and listening.

I walk backwards about fifty feet and reach a doorway into another dark hallway that leads to an office area. I turn around and raced through the hall, through the office area and down a spiral staircase to the ground floor.

At ground level I can see the other staircase about a 125 ft or so off to the left of the aisle I am now in. I am in a "safe zone" now so I start walking in the direction of the stairs to the locker room.

I get to the bottom of the staircase and see that the entrance to that is blocked by various boxes, junk etc being stored there.
In order for someone to get on this staircase, they would of had to of climbed over the "debris" blocking the stairs.

Why didn't I hear any noise of someone crawling, climbing over this all this stuff at the bottom of the staircase?

At this point, I went for back-up.

I went back and "jokingly" told a couple of my friends that I had heard a ghost and of course they scoffed at the idea but I convinced them to go back up there and check it out with me.

We headed back to the spiral staircase and went up, through the "office" and into the locker room. I turned the corner to the staircase and looked down them.

I saw footprints in the thick dust coming up the stairs...But none going back down and none on the "debris" pile. Do Ghosts leave footprints? We saw no one.

I thought at first maybe it was one of the Building Maintenance people but the place is huge and they all drive golf carts around. I would have seen that and knew right away when I first went back down.

I knew those guys and talked to them later, none of them were up there.

Maybe someone off the street wandered through the security gate, into the building and up onto the staircase after climbing over a bunch of junk and then just stopped before coming into my view.

Or maybe the Ghost of a former employee that still haunts his place of employment.

I don't know. But you asked so there are a couple stories from my Unexplained Files. 'Cue X-Files music'. Sorry I lied and gave you the LONG version again.

Oh and I don't think I returned to that particular part of the building again.

to paraphrase a line from one of my all-time favorite movies...

"I don't believe in ghosts, but I'm afraid of them."
