Pirates of the Caribbean 5 could be... A REBOOT? Bloom the lead star?

I about fell out of my chair when I read that. I understand and accept Johnny Depp's star has diminished in the last few years due to over exposure from the Pirates franchise. And even though the last entry didn't do as well here domestically, it was a monster hit overseas so the film worldwide ended up taking in more than any of the other films in the series. So reducing Depp's role to second fiddle to Orlando Bloom is paramount to killing the franchise. Anyone showing up for a Pirates film is not following Orlando Bloom. Of course all of this is coming from Bloom, so there may be no basis in fact (especially since he said he wasn't signed yet). But I definitely found it surprising he would reveal key plot point discussions before having a deal on the film.
I remain a big Depp fan, so this would be a complete downer to me. And we thought they derailed reason with the Lone Ranger...

Oddly enough, I love anything about pirates, but never got into this franchise. It's too OTT.
And again, I'm a fan of Depp, but these days I can no longer stand to watch him. Depp overkill...

But I agree, he is the star of the series, and it would be weird to reduce his role. Maybe he can disappear at the beginning, and they need to find him. The Search for Jack.

Yes, as I re-read the quote... I think maybe he meant that it would be kind of a reboot of his character? I dunno. Can't make sense of it otherwise.
