Do you give Christmas presents to your maintenance people ?

Living in an apartment I usually give the custodians Duncan Donuts gift cards.

Back when I lived in a house we'd tip everyone on Christmas from the garbage men to our snow plower.

    How about you ?

In our building, we only have a super. So, we give him money every Christmas.

I own, so I only tip the newspaper delivery person and our mail carrier. I have never tipped the garbage men because that industry is so impersonal, they use a machine to lift the cans and so there is only a driver. I don't mean to downplay the service but there is just no person to person connection there like there is with the mail and paper carrier

We give a Christmas "tip" to the mailman and to the garbage man. He drives AND picks up all the trash and throws it in, so he definitely earns his money.

Honestly? My cousin drives for the trash company (but not our route) and I come from a postal family, so I have a good idea how much both my garbage man and my mail carrier make a year. Since it is waaaayyyy more than we will ever make, I don't feel the need to tip them. Does that make me horrible?

When I used to have a regular mail carrier, I used to give him a Starbucks card. I haven't had a regular mail carrier in almost 8 years. But that's it.

We don't get a newspaper delivered, I never even see the garbage men, and our mail gets delivered to a community mailbox at the end of our block, so I'm in the clear! We do give Tim Horton's gift cards to the kids' school bus driver and teachers though.

I guess it's the choice of the person, if your happy with your service then a gift card of some sort
is fine, sometimes a $20 dollar gas card is cool too, I tip my mail carrier since they deal with a lot
of aggravation from the upper management and are even timed on how fast they deliver, plus they
deal with the weather conditions, I hear the post office is not such a great place to work, when I need
to go there to send out a package, I don't see many employees smiling, yikes, if anyone deserves a X-Mas
tip it's definitely the mail carrier.

                  I agree.

We take care of the house cleaner, our hair cutter, and our dry cleaner. They are self employed and are providing a service that we request. They aren't a unionized labor force that already gets benefits on top of their above-average wage. Not saying we don't appreciate them, but I don't find the need to spiff people I've never met.

Our mail carrier hit our mailbox with her vehicle not once, but twice and kept on going. So no, not really.
