    Malls in the 80's..

If you remember about a year ago I made a post about the book that came out with pictures of malls from the 80's. That book went out of print and I came across this article with lots of pics from the book that were not on my previous post.
I personally have a soft spot for malls back then. Sadly most of the malls I grew up going to that were thriving are no longer there or are shadows of there former selves.
    Check it out!

It was fun going through those pictures.

I'd bet that mall (or malls) was somewhere on the east coast.

I miss Kaybee and all the hobby and gaming stores.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

It is so funny how it all goes round in circles. Where my wife and I live, when we first moved in back in '95, there was an outdoor mall and a typical enclosed shopping mall. The outdoor mall with a movie theatre got torn down and in popped a Lowes hardware and a strip mall. The enclosed shopping mall got a make over and did pretty well for the next six years. Jump forward and the shopping mall was razed and an outdoor mall with a movie theater was built in the spot and just opened this month. Go figure.
            It's all good!

here in Miami for the most part the 6 of the 8 major malls are still around.. and 2 have not changed a bit..They still look exactly the way they did in 89 They both suck but at least I get a major flashback everytime I go it.. Anna the member Ladyzod will probably remember, she was from Miami.. Mall of the Americas and International mall haven't changed at all except for the stores

Yea that happened to one of the malls I grew up going to. They tore down the old mall and put on of those outdoor malls.
A couple years ago I went to one of my childhood malls and it's been redone and looks all shiny and new with marble floors and all that. Doesn't look anything like it did when I was a kid.
And sadly I went to one of my old malls about a year ago and you could hear a pin drop it was so empty. I remember it being packed with hundreds of people at any given time back in my childhood. I sat there all alone remincing and even got a little choked up. They tore it down 6 months later...

THATS DEFINITELY THE SMITHHAVEN MALL in Lake Grove, New York. I spent an incredible amount of time there with my mom and behaving so we could visit toys r us or child world after. Those pictures were magical for me. Thank you so much for the link.

I remember that batman display! It was in front of bd dalton (I think that was the name), which was where I waited for my mom while she was shopping in petite sophisticate. That mall had a mccrories, an orange Julius, and I still tell people there were trees all over the place....now I have proof!

You are from the Baltimore area, originally, correct? We should compare notes

                            !

That is cool that something from your memory was captured in a photo. There are many store set ups that I wish I had a picture of today.
                            It's all good!
