You're brave to take the step, Dwayne. I am constantly looking at what I can unload, when it is best to sell it, how much I can get for it. I'm beginning to learn that it's the modern stuff that doesn't do it for me. The real trick is resisting modern stuff that apes a vintage aesthetic. That's tough to say no to sometimes. I get what you are saying about model kits. For me, sometimes I pine for that warm nostalgia item, and other times, I enjoy the awesomeness of a new prop replica or high end goody. But after a while, I do feel outnumbered by stuff. And as I approach the age when there are more days behind me than ahead, I do think about what will happen with all the stuff one day.

Best of luck to you in unloading it all. Hopefully for you, you'll get what it's worth. Hopefully for me, I'll be able to resist buying it all from you!

^That's become my realization as well Andy. I just woke up one day a few months back and felt like I didn't own this stuff...it owned me. It wasn't a good feeling. At first I thought it was just a phase, but my heart just isn't in it anymore, except for the creative stuff...models, paintings, etc. The true joy lies in the doing of the thing...not owning it.

[QUOTE=enyawd72;1174855] I just woke up one day a few months back and felt like I didn't own this stuff...it owned me. [\QUOTE]

Exact same thing, but around a decade ago. I owned every TAS figure made in the 90's and still had a ton of childhood toys. Then that line from Fight Club "the things you own end up owning you", just hit me like a bolt.

Oddly enough, it's mainly what brought me down to what I currently have, but even their I'm detaching from certain things.

Purging is a good thing, I do it with some regularity. If there is something that you likely won't see twice or has a special connection and you waffle, keep that piece as it means something.

This what what's been happening to me the last few years.
I've sold quite a bit of stuff, and it's getting easier to let go. Very often, it was just the thrill of the hunt that kept me going back for more, but that hunger has diminished a lot lately.
I buy the occasional figure, put it on the shelf, and that's it.
I have an event coming in 2016, the Belgian Toy Museum wants to display my collection. "A history of the Action Figure". After that, I'm going to make some big decisions. My wife and I have always wanted to see the world, and you can't carry tons of plastic on your back, right?

My only emotional attachment is to my Megos, and some early SW stuff. Basically, two display cases of stuff instead of twenty. So I'll probably reduce it to that. Two suitcases of toys, I can take that anywhere.

Dwayne, you're a really talented guy. Use that to do your own stuff. Don't live somebody else's dream, make your own.

I'm going to try and find time to go through my totes of carded 90s toys and donate to toy drives this year. Most of the stuff is worthless as far as money goes, but I'm sure a needy kid would appreciate a Batman toy from ANY decade.

The only line that is out that I couldn't resist was neca apes. Aside from that, my collection is complete, but I'll pick up some diamond select universal monster stuff as they release it and the occasional Star Trek item. The Star Wars black series was where I realized I was only collecting it because it exists and not because I loved it. Although that greedo will always be a favorite figure of mine.....

Hold onto the stuff you love is my only advice.

I totally understand, models were my first passion as well.I lost almost all of the ones I built as a kid when I had kids...lol
Models and kids don't mix well.
Now that they are older I really want to start building again but still lack display space...lol
It's a no win scenario,I wish you luck and happiness in your going forward and building.

Reviving this thread: I recently bought a house and my lawyer advised me to make a Will. Nobody I know would understand, let alone appreciate, my collection and customs. I contacted a local, large toy museum but they can't accommodate it. I'd like to donate it to a place where it could all be displayed together. There is an action figure museum in OK...anybody know about it? Anyone out there left their collection to a museum or donated it? Just wondering. I really don't want to sell it while I'm "still here"; I enjoy it too much. :D
