It started a little over a month now.
I got, what I thought was a sinus infection but a few days after I was beginning to have swelling and pain both my ankles and feet. I, Mr. "Tough it out and don't go to the doctor" was a comical delight hobbling to the bathroom and whereever I needed to go.
After 3 weeks of this my family kicked my butt to the hospital on election day.
Upon getting there, the real concern of the doctors was the fact that I had a high heartrate and blood preassure. They were more concerned about the heartrate.
From each new guy I would get questions about if I felt it or had effects like dizziness, shortness of breath, etc. I never felt anything unusual.
Blood sugar was okay, my heart got test after test as well as my leg arteries (no clots). The high heart rate boiled down to atrail flutter or flitteration coupled with a slightly enlarged heart. All of which can be addressed through medication. The next few days were devoted to balancing medication to make my heartrate go down and stay down (already got the blood preasure down), in the midst of being pumped full of anti-biotics for the feet.
With them working on the heart matters, stuff that would have been done earlier for the feet, like water pill therapy had to wait. But swelling was already going down on the right foot and even thogh the left was still a big problem, that was getting better too.
Since they want to release you "ambulatory" (to the extent that you can use your home) I will be going from the hospital to a physical rehab place where they can give better and concentrated attention to getting back to walking again. I don't think it will be that long, considering things are improving with both feet.
Then, I should be able to be back to where I can deal with pending orders that I had when things struck.
Probably the saddest thing through all of this is that I went and cancelled my copy of the long awaited limited edition blu ray Batman set until things are more stable. I sure would have loved to spin a disc or 2 first thing when I finally get home.
I don't usually run to the web to say what is happening with me but I thought MM would be okay and among friends. And that is what I am doing with a hospital loaned laptop (with a somewhat screwed up keyboard) believe it or not, with a smile on my face. Those feet (which may have been caused by an not so good functioning heart triggered by infection) may have saved me from a much more weakened heart down the road.
