*Snip, cut!* ABC is ruining the Great Pumpkin!

You know, it's bad enough the Peanuts specials are on ABC, but I don't remember them chopping out whole scenes before, (or am I wrong about this?).

At Violet's party, after Lucy screams about the dog germs (and part of that was cut, too), Snoopy runs to Schroder's piano and marches to Tipperary and cries to some other music, and they completely cut that scene! I know that most of us have the video or DVD or something, but that's not the point! The holiday tradition is being ruined for future generations! (yeah, I know, what do they care when they can watch it all year long?) OK, I'm upset that it's being ruined. It's like a holday tradition being stabbed in the back.

OK, I'm done ranting now. I guess I'll stick to my video from now on, too.

Sorry pal :( That does suck. Why do you think they made those particular edits? We didn't catch it on TV this year but Kaitlynn enusres we watch the DVD on a fairly regular basis. To note (and hopefully make you smile a little) her favorite part is right at the beginning when Linus yells at Lucy; "I didn't know you were gonna kill it!"

It's all about squeezing more commercials into the time slot, unfortunately.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

They cut scenes so they can put more ads in.

They even cut off the epilog in TV shows here.
Then I watch that same show on DVD, and go 'hey wait a minute, I've never seen this bit!"

And you should watch Friday the 13th on the BBC.
Last time I watched, they cut out every single kill Jason makes! He raises his weapon, and "CUT".
Which basically leaves you with 80 minutes of boredom.
They slashed a horror film to make sure that "even the little kids can watch it!"
The only cuts I want to see in a Friday 13th film are the ones made by a machete wielding maniac...
            .
            .
            .

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they've been doing this for years. I remember around when the DVDs first came out, feeling the impression that there were "new" scenes in the edit that I didn't remember as well.

The worst part is that when they make the cuts for more ad space, it's used to promote other shows on the network . BBC America is terrible for this. I also hate the practice of shrinking the credits to a corner so they can run another promo ad, or running the credits at light speed. Or shrinking the credits to the bottom and starting the next show.
Just more examples of why network tv is on it's way out and streaming will take its place. At least then we will see an end to a lot of this reality crap, as I can't see people paying for Honey Boo if they had to.

My son and I watched the Great Pumpkin last night and I even commented to him about how it appeared Snoopy was in two places at once (at the party and then being a flying ace). It felt very disjointed.

There are several more minutes of ad time per hour today than when many of our favorite TV shows from our youth were made. To make room, scenes are cut from episodes. I get the distinct impression that these cuts are based solely on scene length rather than content.

It's always refreshing to go back and watch uncut episodes.
                    Fresh, not from concentrate.

I hate when they indiscriminately edit shows with no regard to the actual plot.

Was watching an episode of Hogan's Heroes the other day and they chopped out a whole scene necessary for understanding the outcome.

For Rik about editing epilogs, I remember back in the 80's this was done regularly to half hour comedies in the US.

Fortunately today most have been reinstated.

Back in the day rerun watchers of Happy Days thought Mork was just a dream.

Actually, that was the episode as originally aired -- it was only after they had such a tremendous reaction to Mork that they tacked on the tag with Mork reporting to Ork and then proceeding to the future. I remember watching both versions of the episode in primetime when they aired, and being surprised at the new ending. We were all over Happy Days in my grade school . . .

Speaking of " Its the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown", and the enjoyment of this great holiday classic. Has anyone else collected any of the 8" inch toy figures that CVS stores put out every Halloween season? I've been a collector of these figures and I have a small assortment of them. I have tried to collect the all of the first run of these figures. As of now I have Charlie Brown with his holey ghost sheet costume, Lucy with her green monster mask and witch hat, Pig pen in his dirty stained ghost sheet costume, Sally dressed up as the bride of Frankenstein, and Snoopy as the WW1 pilot.greatpumpkinfugures.jpg
