A use for old Halloween Pails

I can't take credit for this idea. I think I saw it on a blowmold website a few years ago. I've always liked the Empire and related blow molds, and decorate our yard on Halloween and Christmas with quite a few of them. Well, since these pails are usually made by the same companies, I thought it'd make a nice addition to the festivities this year. Plus, they're cheap, so if you need to add a few different colors/faces, it's no problem.

You have good taste Chris. Blow molded light ups are the Best! We have a bunch for the big holidays as well.

Here it is lit up at night. A little blurry, but you get the idea.

                    Neat! That is super cool!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I drilled two holes in the bottom pail; one in the back, one in the bottom. I put a large bolt through a thick cup lid (for a base) and then ran it up through the pail bottom. On the other end of the bolt, I put a rubber stopper on that, and then fit a long, thin PVC pipe over that. Then I drilled holes in the bottoms of all the other pails, and slid them down on the pole, as I slid a string of 100 Christmas lights up through them, leaving a few to sit in each pail, to light them up. I needed a cap for the top one, and the kids still had an old McDonald's Happy Meal pail that had a lid, and it worked out really well. I pulled the cord through the hole in the bottom pails' back, and filled it with gravel and rocks to weight it down. So far, it's holding up fine.

Thanks everyone. I may have to stabilize it a bit more. A wind storm came in last night and blew my Halloween set-up all to hell. But luckily we pulled the totem pole inside before it got too bad. My other blow molds and 12' inflatable Frankenstein didn't fare so well! I know what I'm doing this afternoon!
