Man this is just great and so true! I compare what my mom did for us in the late seventies and early eighties and what I have to buy now for my girl and it's pretty different. Seemed simpler then but usually my kids grown enough over the summer to need some new clothes anyway. In a lot of ways it's the same. We're not particularly organic and my girl likes to pick out a new lunchbox every year (just no characters on it now). School does start early though, especially for me since im a teacher and usually do a two week summer school stint. Summers seemed an eternity when I was a kid. -

Oh, bring back the 70s!
Absolutely my favorite decade ever...but that's probably because I was a kid with no responsibilities, worrying about working for a living (although I did a paper route)... simpler but more fun. And since I don't have kids now, well, there's no attachment today as far as school rituals for kids are concerned, so I'm out of touch and can't relate.
Cool blog, lol,sigpicComment

Something else they didn't have in that article that I read about in my local paper, parents nowadays are having a fit because their kids have to have shots before they can go to school. Then watch the fit they'll throw if their kids winds up getting the measles.Comment
