Preview of my upcoming CRYPTIDS: REAL LIFE MONSTERS Coloring Book

This is a project I've wanted to do for a long time...The book will have a very detailed painted cover and the interior will cover all the various Bigfoot type creatures from the U.S. and around the world.

I tried to find a nice balance between realistic and kid-friendly for the artwork. I want it to be a little scary, but not too scary. Interested to know what you guys think. Also, please don't post this image around anywhere else...it is copyrighted.

    Thanks!

I was already a fan of this project when you announced it in the other thread - but now that I see the style and tone of the book I'm even more excited!

I'm glad you went with this tone, a bit scary, and not a more kiddie tone. I think sometimes things get too "kiddified" in an attempt to appeal more, but I like the sincerity of this and I think it will be way more interesting to kids this way. It actually reminds me of the books I use to stare at endlessly at the library when I was a kid. I also like the educational aspect of the details you're putting in the text.

Your drawing style here has a great balance between realistic detail and bold areas for colouring. Very cool! I'm not sure I've seen your ink work before - just your paintings. Speaking of which, I'm really looking forward to seeing the painted covers!

I guess my only minor suggestion would be regarding the editorial style - I'd love to see some distinction between reported info and established facts - so I'd suggest slight additions to what you have, like: "He is reported to be seven feet tall..." not to betray your beliefs, but just to be more precise about the way the info is presented. Again, that's just a minor suggestion.

Is your plan to still do a book specifically on different types of Big Foot and another one on other Cryptids?

I like it. It captures the feel of these odd "art" coloring books of the 70s with monsters, Berni Wrightson, and the like. Nice work!

Awesome! Maybe you could use kickstarter to gauge interest and raise funds? I'd back it.

Ahahaha YES. This is exactly the thing I would have loved to gotten my hands on back in the 70's, when all things spookified fascinated. Oh wait, they still do.

Love the fact it's kid accessible, so we can trigger their imaginations like ours were. Can't wait to see the finished product!!

Cool idea. Neat timing too; I just started working on my own coloring book too.

Thanks for the compliments and input guys...much appreciated. I agree with your suggestion about the editing Brazoo...I'm going to make that change. I'll be tweaking the art just a bit also...this page is an ink tracing of preliminary pencils I did.
I think I may want to inject a bit more life/movement into the illustrations.

I love it! Boggy creek monster, maybe Mothman? Would love to get it when finished. My nine year old girl suggested Mothman. Our family is a big fan of the documentary Mothman: behind The Red Eyes. It's on Netflix and we watch it often. The people of Point Pleasant seem wonderful.

The plan is to focus mostly on Bigfoot type creatures but there will be others...the finished book will include:

                              Ohio Grassman
                              Florida Skunk Ape
                              Fouke Monster
                              Pacific Northwest Sasquatch
