Anybody here go to the casino often ?

Nowadays there's a casino in almost everyone's backyard.

Closest one to me is Mount Airy Lodge

Even though it's only 10-ish miles away I have no interest in going.

Probably because I don't have a pot to ___ in to begin with

But, I don't think i'd be much of a gambler even if I had the scratch.

Regardless, they seem to attract a lot of people ---

Are you one of them ?

There is a casino about twenty minutes from our hunting cabin. In the fifteen years we have had the cabin, we have gone once - just to check it out. Checking it out took ten dollars, fifteen minutes and we were done. No need to go back.

We have one in central Ohio, but I haven't been. I can't get past the idea that the odds favor the house, so I'd rather invest my $$ where the odds favor me...or buy toys. I took the fam to the dog track in Wheeling and won enough to buy lunch, but I view that more as purchasing entertainment than gambling.

There are three Casinos within a 15-20 minute drive from me, two right across the river in Iowa and one in Ill.

There is also a horse racing track about ten minutes from me,was there once but didn't place any bets.

I haven't been to any of them since the early-mid 90's.

When the Casino's first started in this area in the 1991 i believe, they were all "Riverboat Casino's" and they were actual paddlewheel boats styled
after the 19th century Steam driven paddlewheel Riverboats which was i thought was pretty cool.

At first it was the LAW that the Riverboats had to "cruise" the river. It was about a three hour tour i believe.

So once you got on you were stuck until the boat docked again, which was alright if you were winning but if not you were back watching the paddlewheel with the other losers waiting for the boat to dock.

That didn't last too long because these Casino companies were wasting a lot of money "cruising the river" so the LAW was changed to where they didn't have to cruise.

The Riverboats basically became "floating" permanently moored buildings on the river that never went anywhere. The LAW now said the Casinos had to be surrounded by water.
Both sides,IL and IA had permanately moored Casino "buildings".

Eventually IL. said the heck with the river and boats and moved their Casino off the Mississippi and they are now a "land based' Casino, but they are on a lake which i think was artificially made.
Maybe the new LAW is that they have to be "by water" only now.

It was a novelty at first and i went a few times when the boats actually cruised, a couple when they didn't but have not been to one in years.
I won a couple times, nothing big, a few hundred playing slots once and six hundred playing Carribean Poker once but i also lost a few hundred before and got to watch the paddlewheel go round and round.
It doesn't appeal to me at all these days.

It was actually cool just to see them cruising the river when they did but the "Riverboat Casinos" around here have become a thing of the past Again.

I am at our local casino, or one of the many within 1-2 hours of my house, 1-2 times a week. However, I have yet to play any of the casino games or slots. I head straight to the poker room. I really enjoy playing poker and treat it as a part time job. Actually, with all of the crap hitting me lately, my poker winnings are just about the only thing keeping us afloat.

We have a race track in our town and casinos very close by, but I very rarely visit any of them, not my thing.

i have been to the casinos twice in my life, both times for bachelor parties. I have no interest in gambling my hard earned money away. the last time I went I think I spent twenty on slots and then just hung around and watched every one else play and waste their money

A very geneous friend of mine took me to Tunica MS because he had free tickets to seen Gaffigan. We also payed to play golf at Tunica National and another fine course. I really didn't think the gambling was that fun, it just doesn't hold my attention, seems a waste too. I did put $20 in a slot and eventually turned it into $130 so it payed for my golf.
I couldn't help but notice the large number of people who looked really poor and desperate. You could read it on their faces like a sign, I saw a lot of people eating the buffet like it was their last meal and whispering furtively to each other. Just not a place I would frequent on my own.

I went when I was in Las Vegas and San Juan, PR for work. I won about $100 at each and quit. It was fun but I can see how it can become additive.

^^^ Quit while you are ahead is the way to do it.

It also seems that every bar now a days has some form of gambling, another thing I don't do these days but driving by one the other day, I seen the flashing sign, "We have Slots".
