    Patrick McGoohan

Happy Belated B'day Patrick McGoohan! March 19 it was mentioned on Kieth Olberman's news program Countdown on MSNBC. Here's the excerpt from the transcript:

    (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

OLBERMANN: On this date 80 years ago, the actor Patrick McGoohan (ph) was born, inscrutable tough guy, star of “Secret Agent Man,” twice an Emmy winner for guest shots on “Columbo.” He was also the creator and star of what is, 40 years after its last episode, one of the most challenging TV series ever created, “The Prisoner.”

OLBERMANN imitates the famous line (voice-over): "You, arrrrre number six."

If you‘ve never been sure if that accent of his means he was born in Ireland or Scotland or South Africa or England,....wrong on all counts.

He was born in Astoria, in Queens, near Laguardia Airport, NY. Let‘s play Oddball.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

    OLBERMANN (voice-over): I am not a number!

A very happy belated birthday to Patrick McGoohan.

He was born in the U.S. but grew up in Ireland. Sometimes his accent is more
noticable than others. Depends on the part.

Danger Man/Secret Agent is a great show that holds up very well all these
    years later.

The Prisoner is simply one of the best things to ever happen to television.

If anyone is a fan of the Prisoner look for the graphic novel Shattered Visage. Its some what of a sequal.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
          Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

My wife and I were watching A Time To Kill - he's the judge - and I mentioned that he was also The Prisoner and Danger Man. (Delivered like Bill Engvall) Y'all she looked at me like I was from another planet...

Loved him on Escape from Alcatraz... in which he played the new Number 1... that had to be an inside joke between himself, Eastwood, and all the Prisoner fans out there!

                    Hmmmm....

I think he'd be an interesting guy to hang out with. Very perscient. He's either the most mellow guy ever, or a complete hate filled monster, given his observations on society.

I still love "the prisioner;" possibly 'cos I live it almost every day at work.

I don't remember the title of that particular Columbo episode but he won an
Emmy for the part of the commandant. I'm pretty sure he won a second Emmy
for one of the newer Columbos.

McGoohan and Peter Falk are buddies and before Falk decided to return to
Columbo he suggested that McGoohan would be a good choice to take over
                        the part.

I have the complete Danger Man Series. Just a matter of time before The Prisoner Megaset winds up on my DVD shelf too.

McGoohan was in at least 3 original Columbo tv series episodes I could track down. I read in the one where he plays a spy he talks, drresses and acts like his character from The Prisoner. I will have to see as I just acquired that season set.

McGoohan had a vedry good role in Silver Streak w/ Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor also.
