I'm from Long Island....still live here and probably always will and even though I was born in 77 the places the author mention are still very cool to read about. I used to love TSS and the smith haven mall was my weekend treat when I was a kid. Always guaranteed to get a toy and a pretzel. Every long islander close enough to my age (36) and older would definitely relate to most of those places.....

      Thanks for the link!

Great site! I'll be wasting time there for sure. I watched the Saturday Morning piece just now, with Chuck Woolery as Superman, never saw that before , really cool!
Thank you Sharry for posting the link!

And didja notice a very young and really cute Rick Springfield (the way I knew him back in the day), promoting his cartoon show Mission Magic!?

Oh yeah, and with one of those invisible dog leash things that were popular for a brief time (why?).
Burns & Schrieber were everywhere during that period too, lots of commercials. I think Jack Burns died not long ago.
Why did that kid need jammies for an afternoon nap? Who was in the Batman '66 costume (not Adam West)?

The invisible leash was to promote the "Goober and the Ghost Chasers" cartoon.

I grew up in Huntington Long Island! Born in 1969 though. I spent so much time at TSS myself. There was a great store in the TSS mall. I think a dime store or maybe a card store ( greeting cards ).Anyway, that store always had tons of jigglers, rubber monsters by ben cooper and all sorts of packs of bsaeball cards, wacky packs & much more. I havent viewed the entire blog yet. I havent seen my main hangout mentioned yet- The Walt Whitman Mall. I had a great childhood growing up on Long Island. Safe place, fun, beach, snow, sleigh riding, you name it.

Patchogue here and grew up in Bohemia. Just like you said, growing up here was perfect. Being an adult is pretty close, but nothing beats all that you described when you don't have to worry about a thing!!!!
