The "General Buzz" section seems like the place to vent about my neighbor's chain saw

I live waaaay out in the sticks, where it used to be quiet. I liked to sit on my front porch watching deer, foxes, eagles, and listen to all the birds. My drunken neighbor has not only lost his car, but he recently lost his job as well due to drunk driving. He is now making money by selling firewood. To get that firewood, he is slowly clear-cutting his extra ten acre parcel that is between our houses. I know it's his right to do so, but it's the method that is driving me crazy.

Starting a 7:00 am EVERY morning, he runs a loud, old, fuming loader through the woods and then begins to chain saw. He drops the tree and then proceeds to section it and cut it right where it fell. The end result is his chain saw running right behind my house almost non-stop from 7:00 am until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. This has been going seven days a week for more than four weeks now. I. AM. GOING. CRAZY!

Sorry, I just needed to vent. Thank you for the opportunity!

Isn't it better from 7 in the morning to 4 inthe afternoon tha 4 in the afternoon to 7 in the morning? But I understand the annoyance... Hope he clears the 10 acres soon

Gosh, that sucks. And I thought I had it bad, b/c my neighbors right above my backyard and getting their retaining wall and fence fixed and they're machines and guys out there starting at 7:30 am.

Perhaps you can ask everyone with a chainsaw to get together one day and clear that patch in one swift stroke together.
It's the "neighborly thing" to do, and this way he just won't have any trees left to cut down.

Then again, if he does everything drunk, the problem might resolve itself quickly. He might be sporting the Evil Dead look pretty soon. "Hello neighbor, that's a lovely chainsaw you have grafted to your wrist..."

But I feel your pain. Whenever there's a holiday or something, all my neighbors feel the need to get out all their power tools and run them from dawn til dusk. It's like nobody can unwind and just sit still for a couple of hours.

8:00 am on Sunday morning and he is already hard at work. If the courts could put a breathalyzer on his car before he lost his license, why can't thy put on one his chain saw?

Its better not to say anything to your neighbor, and just let Karma get the best of him one day. If he's out there operating a chainsaw and planning to get stupid drunk at the same time while doing this, karma will eventually catch up to him. Power tools and alcohol don't mix.

If "lightning" strikes and his trees burn, no more chainsaw. (This is not a suggestion.)
Maybe there is a bee's nest around that he could "discover"?
Flyswatter trap might come in handy?

Is spiking trees illegal where you live?

All depends on your local ordinances...especially the laws pertaining to cutting trees.

However, if it's legal, doesn't go outside his property line, and he keeps it between those specific hours (you yourself posted)...he is really not doing anything wrong, certainly within his rights, except drive you crazy.

Aside from the actual legality of tree cutting...the only thing you could question...is he cutting during the weekends, especially on Sundays, there could be a law that would make it illegal, but again, check your local ordinances.

Like I said in my original post, he is within his rights to do this; he is just ignoring common decency and good manners as he goes about it. And here we go,...four minutes after 7:00 am and it starts yet again. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and hope to leave it with happy pills because my nerves are absolutely frazzled. Yesterday, I punched the wall as stress relief. Today, I am afraid there will not be enough walls.
