Worst rain in 41 years on Long Island...

I've never seen anything like what we got early this morning. From about 4am till around 8am we got 13 inches of rain where I am. Basement got a little bit of water on the front of the house. I guess the ground just couldn't handle that much absorption. Nothing a few towels and a dehumidifier can't handle. It literally sounded like the house was going through an intense car wash for those 4 hours. So far all I lost was a book by Algernon Blackwood that I bought at a thrift store a few years ago. Haven't check the storage closet I have...but being that most of my stuff is in totes I think I'll be OK. Roads are a complete mess. Sunrise Highway in particular had 3 overpasses in a row with cars stuck in water underneath them. I think they shut down the main part of the highway at some point this morning. Just real intense.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them

Glad that you made it through the rain. Hopefully, you'll remain unscathed.

I think all of the rain on Long Island, yesterday, caught everyone by surprise. There was rain in the forecast, but not torrential flooding.

We got rain here in NYC, but nowhere near what Long Island received.

Really glad that you made it through pretty good. A couple of other people I know, who live on Long Island, made it through all right, as well. Just some minor basement flooding.
