The Best Fish and Chips --- yes, another food thread

To my surprise I think I hit upon the best fish & chips i've ever had since Arthur Treachers went MIA all those years ago.

Get ready for this ..... It was at Friendly's (ice cream).

I know, what the hell, right ?

I have to admit, this stuff beats any fish and chips i've had for 30+ years.

Where's your fav fish and chips joint ?

My niece took me to Dukes in West Seattle. But I do miss Arthur Treachers too, Mikey.

Captain D's was a fave here until one closed and two burned down. Yeah, suspiciously.

A Salt and Battery on Greenwich Ave. in Manhattan. It's next to a restaurant called Tea & Sympathy. They are both owned by some Brits. Its really good. I've been twice (both for lunch). The second time was with my cousin and his friend. They're both from London and thought that it was very much like any fish and chips place in England. You have several choices of fish. The also offer additional side such as mushy peas.

It's a small place. I suppose it's overwhelmingly a takeout shop. However, you can eat inside. There is a bar around the inside widows of the shop with stools. The seating is very limited, but we have managed to all find seats both times.

Jim's Burgers has a great Fish'n Chips meals: 3 huge fish sticks, a side of fries, a toasted bun half, and a salad.

              I like the name.

I get fish and chips at a local fish market/restaurant near the lake, nothing like fresh fish.

The Crispy Fry in the Emeryville Public Market serves pretty tasty fish 'n chips...

It's a Chinese joint, but they are also known for Brit style fish n' chips, since it specializes in Hong Kong fair.

It's fried cod...and they offer this really yummy English vinegar...it goes great with the dish...

                Pretty tasty Chinese food too...

Sounds like you folks haven't had Lake Erie perch! The best tasting fish ever caught, battered and fried, The Erie Beach hotel in Port Dover is a pretty famous place here for fish and celery bread.

I've always been a Long John Silver's guy...their batter is just incredible. Also, their shrimp, clam strips and crab cakes blow Red Lobster's away and are only a third of the price.

Do they still wrap their take-away fish and chips in old newspapers in the UK?

We have Captain Ds and Long John Silvers in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi region, but if I'm going to pay to eat fish, unless I'm on one of the coasts, I want catfish fillets with hush puppies and fries, slaw and green tomato relish. The best I've had is from a joint called the Catfish Hole in Fayetteville, ark. I take my dad and mom there every other week.

Never had a bad meal at the place and it is difficult to be consistent with catfish. The place has the absolute best hush puppies I've ever had and you get as many as you can eat.

I've never had room for their banana cream pie, but those who have say it's great.

Yeah, I only have malt vinegar when I eat fish and chips, and it's so good (on the chips, too).

By the way, I always loved Long John Silvers when I was a kid. It seems that it was very popular in the 70s and 80s...maybe not as popular as Kentucky Fried Chicken was at the same point in time, but still quite popular. Anyhow, I still think it's great. I wish I got a chance to eat there more often. I typically visit when we visit Indiana.

Yes! The local place I was talking about has great fresh perch and pickerel from Lake Erie. And I've had it at Erie Beach hotel too, great stuff!

Oh god, on our trip to the Frazetta museum last weekend, Ed and I stumbled upon a Long John Silvers. We were excited because neither of us had been to one in years, I didn't even know the chain still existed. I only had the fried shrimp but it was terrible, didn't like the batter at all. And the service was so inept that I somehow ended up with two shrimp meals instead of one. Normally I would be a happy with a mistake like this but I ended throwing the extra meal in the trash.
