Trick 'r Treat! This technically wasn't a bomb because it received pretty much universal praise from anyone who was lucky enough to see it on the festival circuit; nonetheless, the movie sat in the can for two years after it was made before finally being released to the public through DVD/Blu-ray in 2009. It has since become a favorite among many horror fans and is a staple of the Halloween season for me now. Every time I watch it, I still can't believe that it didn't get a proper theatrical release.

^And movies that were hits have absolutely no following even a year after. Think of all the "hit" movies that were number 1 from even a few years ago that are in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart.

Most movies being celebrated with retro merchandise today were not break out hits. In fact some were total bombs. Big Trouble in Little China found it's star in the after market. Same with the remake of the Thing. Flash Gordon was an underachiever. And even though Escape from New York was a success, it was more of a modest hit that gained it's true notoriety in the after market as well. Tron was the same way. It's fascinating to see the public opinion of certain films do a complete flip after enough time has cushioned that initial reaction. The failures of today can easily become the cult classics of tomorrow. Never say never.

Just saw Blade Runner, the final cut, on the big screen.
They added quite a bit of gore. Tyrell's death scene is longer and nastier. And Batty pushing the nail trough his own hand, and you now see it tearing up the back of his hand.
They should have left it alone.

The biggest bomb that I can think of was Starcrash. My memory of seeing that movie DO NOT hold up with what the movie actually is. Although I'm not sure it is a cult favorite unless you are MST3K-ing it.

I saw Time Bandits in a first run theater. Now THAT one holds up well. Although it was considered a box office success I don't remember anyone going to see it at the time and I was one of the only kids in my neighborhood who saw it before it hit HBO.

My Dad took me to see a special showing of Blade Runner in late '82/ early '83. It was billed as "The Uncut Version" with 20 minutes of extra footage. When I finally saw it on video I was not able to remember any distinction between the two.

    Nah, just looked it up

The movie I seen was a documentary.

If this helps, trying to remember--- it might have been the second feature of Phantom of the Paradise - as the main movie

I also like the extended TV version or Alan Smythe release.
I loved Dune, and still do. I never really had trouble understanding it, even though I didn't read the book till years later. I just thought it was a completely original story and went along for the ride.

Back in the 70's my local theatre used to show double features.

I remember seeing a documentary about Lynyrd Skynyrd but can't remember the title.

Tried looking for it on the net but couldn't find it.

It's not the 1996 Freebird movie.

The one i'm talking about played in the 70's.

Think it was a double feature with Smokey and the Bandit

Anaconda starring Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube, horrible to say the least. Lopez had just finished making
the Selena movie which she was great in, then went onto make this dibocal, like night and day, just wish
the snake ate Cube, but it probably would have upchucked him up.

The Rocketeer- Disney did not market that movie well, underperformed in the movie theaters and yet mostly everyone who I speak to, absolutely loves it. It has a bigger following now than it did when it was released. I hope to one day see a new Rocketeer made.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow- saw people walk out on it, but I thought it was just fantastic
