Movies that Bombed in the theatre that you saw..

Rocky Horror Picture Show. Myself and my two cousins were the only three people in the theater, although three girls walked in during the opening song and sat in the very last row (I noticed them when I turned during the lyrics "in the very last row"). When Frankenfurter appears dressed in drag (and my one cousin exclaimed "What the f*** is this b***s*** ?!?"), I turned and realized we were again the only three people in the theater.

The next time I saw the movie, a couple years later, I was ticked off that the sold-out audience wouldn't stop screaming out random things, throwing items, and otherwise interfering with my trying to listen to the soundtrack.

Seen Mallrats! Me and 2 other buddies the only people in there. That movie spawned the classic line Tell em Steve Dave and look what that rolled into! awesome podcast and ok tv show

I saw Office Space twice in the theatre.

My whole family literally dragged me and my brother and sister out of the theatre when we seen Johnny Dangerously. Later, after I had seen the whole movie, I don't blame them for doing that either. It was terrible.

The Wizard Of Oz was not considered a success when first released. Same thing for It's A Wonderful Life and Bringing Up Baby.

John Carpenter's The Thing flopped bigtime.
Everybody was in an "ET" frame of mind at the time.
It took a couple of decades for that film to find its place.

Same for Blade Runner, not a popular movie at the time of release...

I loved Condorman even before I saw it. I used to rent Disney VHS's from the local shop and at the beginning of each video they would have those montages... and Condorman was always shown. I made it my mission to track that movie down to watch it (since my video shop didn't have a copy.)

I distinctly remember going at least five times to the local cinema I had within walking distance to see Megaforce. This little theater also damaged my youthful brain with Super Fuzz, My Name is Bruce and Condorman. Ah yeah, the classics...

Empire Records, Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Tank Girl... way too many to count.

Actually, Pulp Fiction did quite well in it's theatrical release, it ended up grossing over $100 million. Although I didn't get around to seeing it until it was playing in a sketchy second run theater in downtown Buffalo, but actually that ambiance fit the film perfectly. And I was absolutely hypnotized for two and a half hours, still one of my all time favourite films.
